Wengen, situated in the ski center Kleine Scheidegg - Mannlichen with 110 km of predominantly easy to medium-difficulty pistes, is one of the most attractive and popular winter sport villages in Switzerland. Wengen was first mentioned in official documents in 1268. The origin of the name is unknown. The Swiss ski resort is part of the Jungfrau Top Ski Area and has direct access to 112km of downhill skiing, with 33 individual pistes, served by 19 ski lifts. Every year in January, Wengen hosts the Lauberhorn Downhill Ski Race - surely the most spectacular race of the whole world cup circuit.

They provide an oasis of fresh and calm greenery, where you can discover or rediscover this exceptional and educational place for relaxing and strolling. It is nearby the “Palais des Nations”, and it is an easy walk from the square. If you are in the city center, take tram number 13 direction “Palettes”, and get off at its final stop. “Botanicum” (a family space) is near the lake. Since 1904, these 28 hectares located on the edge of Geneva, Switzerland, offer an ideal setting for either a simple stroll or for learning.

Lake Geneva Marathon and Adventure Races
Saturday, May 10, 2008The Geneva Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race held in Geneva, Switzerland. It draws about 5,500 participants and is held every May since its first edition in 2005. Apart from the marathon, there is also half marathon held on the same day. A time limit of six hours applies to the main event.

Its predecessor dated from 1886, when the new hydraulic turbines on the Rhone built up excessive water pressure after the city’s craftsmen had closed the valves in their workshops and gone home. An engineer created a temporary outlet which spurted a 30m fountain to release the pressure while a reservoir system was developed, but by the time the fountain became unnecessary a few wily Genevois had caught on to its power as a tourist attraction. Then purely decorative, it was moved from the river to an exposed lakeside location, and furnished with more and more powerful pumps. It’s a big fountain that shoots straight out of the lake… it was built for a world fair there. You can see it from all around the lake, and they shine lights on it at night. The lake is beautiful to watch a sunset on, and the Swiss Alps surround it. Also, there is a statue of a “naked man and a horse”. Eight 9,000-watt projectors light the fountain’s majestic column in the evening as it soars skywards.

A symbol of the Geneva, Switzerland, watch industry of world renown, the famous flower clock, located at the edge of the Jardin Anglais (English Garden), was created in 1955. It is a masterpiece of technology and floral art. The Flower Clock is the pride and glory of the city, honouring the importance of the watchmaking industry as well as the skilfulness of its gardening team. It changes every year to accommodate the seasonal colours and requires around 6500 flowers, trimmed to the millimetre by horticultural specialists. Formerly only decorative with its sole dial comprising over 6,500 flowers, the new millennium provided it with decisive artistic dimensions thanks to the ingenuity of the gardeners of the Service of Green Spaces and the Environment.
