One of the most prestigious cultural centres in the Mexican capital
Established in 1992, the bookstore El Pendulo in Mexico City, Mexico is at once bar, cafe and bookstore. This urban spot is bright, spacious, huge, gloriously plant-filled and air conditioning, which makes it a wonderful literary escape on a hot Mexican day. In Spanish, El Pendulo is referred to as a “cafebreria”, a portmanteau word combining cafe and bookshop. El Pendulo has long been known as one of the best ways to beat the heat in the largest city in the world.
Housing a cafe, art gallery, a small discussion area and even a room for screening art films, it is as popular for its excellent cafe as it is for its books. Although it only has a small English language section, its open architecture populated with several trees makes for an excellent afternoon’s escape. This is a great spot for casual meet up with friends for coffee, breakfast or lunch. It has a small venue where live music is played from 7:30p to 11:30p. Basically, a pleasant place to come and have a slice of cake and a cup of cappucino, while music plays in the background. It has the added advantage of offering valet parking.
