Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge, Brazil
Asymmetric and modernistic bridge extends over Lake Paranoia, Brasilia. The design of the bridge consists of three 61 meter asymmetric arches and steel cables supporting structure and was created by Brazilian architect Alexandre Chan, from Rio de Janeiro. The entire structure has a total length of 1,200 m. Opened on December 15, 2002 it was completed at a cost of US$56.8 million. Named after a beloved former president Zhuselino Kubichek de Oliveira, the scenic view of and from the bridge makes for an amazing experience.
Brooklyn Bridge
Since its opening, it has become an iconic part of the New York skyline. Connecting the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, it is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. For the construction of 1825 m long structure were needed 13 years. At the time it opened, and for 20 years this was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Brooklyn Bridge is designed to be 6 times stronger than necessary. Nevertheless, people had doubts about the sustainability of the bridge. On 17 May 1884, famous showman P. Barnum decided to refute the doubts once and led the procession of 21 elephants across the bridge. Ponte Octavio Frias de Oliveira, Sao Paulo, Brazil
This cable-stayed bridge is 138 metres tall, and crosses the Pinheiros River, connecting Marginal Pinheiros to Jornalista Roberto Marinho Avenue. Spectacular views to the eyes, especially at night, this is the first suspension bridge in the form of X. 1600-meter structure extends over the river Pinheiro and was opened in May 2008. Massive concrete piles 138 m in height keep both wings of the bridge in the middle. Each year in December, the bridge’ ropes placed LEDs, which with the help of a computer program glow in different colours in different ways.
