Ukraine was a center of medieval East Slavic civilization forming the state of Kievan Rus. The Pechersk Lavra in Kiev
is one of the oldest monasteries in Eastern Europe, built by Kiev monks back in 1051, this striking building is the most holy place in the Ukraine, so it is included on the
UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. The Pechersk Lavra is also called the Monastery of Caves.
