This is the unique library of the faculty of philology in the Free University, Berlin, Germany. Occupying a central role in the intellectual life of Berlin since the end of World War II, the foundation of the Free University is one of the city’s most symbolically important institutions. It marked the rebirth of liberal education in Berlin after the war. Today, it is the largest of Berlin’s three universities. This is a part of a series devoted to Modern Architecture in Academic Environments.

The Neues Museum

Located on Museum Island, Berlin, the museum was opened in 1859. Designed by Friedrich August Stuler, it was one of the most ambitious building projects of its time due to its use of new industrial construction technologies such as the steam engine. Built in the neo-Classical style, the Neues museum suffered severe damage and partially destroyed in the Second World War in a series of massive bomb blasts during the bombing of Berlin. And it was closed in 1939.

The largest aquarium in the world

The largest navigable aqueduct in the world


Located near the town of Magdeburg, Germany, the Magdeburg Water Bridge aqueduct is an engineering masterpiece. Opened in October 2003, it is a navigable aqueduct in Germany that connects the Elbe-Havel Canal to the Mittelland Canal, and allows ships to cross over the Elbe River. With a total length of 918 metres, this bridge is the longest navigable aqueduct in the world.

Opening nights from Levi’s


The denim world famous brand encourages residents and visitors of Berlin to roll up their sleeves at the Levi’s Print Workshop. This is a temporary arts exhibition space housed in the Alte Münze, a former industrial complex in Mitte. Here you have a chance to print on white Levi’s t-shirts different motos like “Now It’s Our Time” or some faces from iconic people from the world choosing mix of colors, spread it on the surface and then pressing it on the t-shirt.

Today there is a strong current of activism and subversion in urban art. Street art become very powerful platform for reaching the public, and frequent themes include adbusting, subvertising and other culture jamming, the abolishment of private property and reclaiming the streets. Wayfaring is proud to presents some of the best street art cities in the world! New York City, Brooklyn: While many street artists have migrated in recent years from Williamsburg to less-trammeled Brooklyn neighborhoods (Bushwick is the latest open-air gallery), swaths of art still adorn the streets and alleys of “Billyburg.” Prime viewing areas include North 6th Street (around Berry Street and Wythe Avenue), Ainslie Street (just east of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway), and Roebling Street—where, as of this writing, a towering radio-controlled giraffe by artist Nick Walker decorates a wall just south of Metropolitan Avenue.

Football Stadiums Tours

AOL Arena
Located in Hamburg, Germany, it is the home ground of Hamburger SV. Originally built in 1925, it has been destroyed completely during the Second World War and was again-established in 1953. In 1998 it was again totally renovated with about € 90-100 million investments. It has capacity of 57, 000 seats (all covered) and field’ dimensions are105 m x 68 m. The new AOL Stadium belongs to the European-wide most beautiful and most modern stadiums. A stadium tour is app. 90 minutes and costs €5.00.

Neugerriemschneider Gallery

The annual Gallery Weekend Berlin, which just finished its seventh iteration, welcomed a severe flood of collectors, curators and artists to the city for a three-day marathon of 44 official openings and countless other events. One important artist was absent from the festivities: Ai Weiwei, the detained Chinese artist, whose exhibition will continue into June at Neugerriemschneider Gallery.

Duda, Dada Heritage

Many people have heard about Dada art movement but few realise that it originated in the Niederdorf in Zurich in 1916, in partnership with Cabaret Voltaire. The house was preserved and reopened in 2002 to the public as a musem. However last summer its cafe was turned into a bar and Duda was born. The name of the cafe is a play on words coming from Dada and the German for ‘you there’. It’s a pity because few people know about the bar, as you have to walk through the museum shop – great for unusual gifts – to get to it, and because Duda is not allowed to advertise itself on the historical facade.
