Thorvaldsens Museum: The Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen lived for more than 40 years in Rome and was one of the most renowned artists among his contemporaries in Europe. In 1838, he donated his large collection to his native city Copenhagen. The conspicuous and colourful museum building was erected from 1839-1848 by the Danish architect M.G. Bindesboll and is one of the finest building. In Denmark‘s oldest museum you will primarily see the sculptures that Bartel Thorvaldsen made. But in addition to Thorvaldsen’s own works, the museum also contains his extensive collection of paintings from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and his collection of antique object of art.
