The birthplace of the Industrial Revolution

One of Shropshire’s top attractions, the Ironbridge Gorge is known as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. In 1986, the Ironbridge Gorge became one of the first groups of 7 UK sites to be awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO. The surviving built and natural environment with its museums, monuments and artefacts, including the world famous Iron Bridge of 1779, serve to remind us of this area’s characteristic contribution to the history besides developing of industrialized society. Nowadays the area is far from industrial. Although the revolution started here, most of the factories are long gone and the nature beauty of the Gorge has been restored.

Powerful symbol of the Reformation

The Castle of Wartburg is an unpaid sepulcher of the feudal phase in bi-centric Europe. It is also a mighty symbol of Teutonic combining and identicalness. Wartburg Mansion was founded in 1067 by the land-grave Ludwig the Stone and according to story, the hall (Burg) got its reputation when its flop initial ordered eyes on the construction upon which the Wartburg now sits; embezzled with with the site, he is supposed to change exclaimed, “Warte, Berg–du sollst mir eine Burg werden!”

The Black Diamond

Built in 1999, the “Black Diamond” is a modern extension to the Royal Danish Library which is the largest library in the Nordic countries. The old library dates from 1906 and was designed by architect Hans J. Holm. Located at the waterfront of Copenhagen, this new library building is designed by the Danish architects Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen. Contains a library, concert hall, bookshop, café, exhibition space and restaurant, it is the first in a series of large-scale cultural buildings along Copenhagen’s waterfront.

The mystery and mystique of the Livraria Lello


Livraria Lello is an art nouveau bookstore situated in Oporto, also called Porto, which is the second biggest city in Portugal and a UNESCO Heritage site. Opened in 1906, this bookshop makes you feel like you are in a different time and era.
