Far closer to Africa than to Spain, the sub-tropical Canary Islands are known for their budget sun and sand – although, as they are volcanic, the latter is often a rather uninviting shade of charcoal. Solutions have been found by importing golden sand from the Sahara 200 km away, and by building saltwater lidos. Nonetheless, the balmy year-round climate, cooled to a steadt 25-30º C by marine currents, has ensured that these seven islands have not only fabulously lush vegetation, including a sufeit of bananas, but also a constant flow visitors.

La Laguna in short, is a city in the northern part of the island of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. In Spanish ‘The Lagoon”, the city is third-most populous city of the archipelago and second-most populous city of the island. It was founded more than five centuries ago some time between 1496 and 1497 by Alonso Fernandez de Lugo. It was the main cultural centre and several teaching institutions were established like Canary Islands University.

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. The seven specks of Spain which are located off the coast of Morocco in the Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago has long had something of a reputation as a package tourist destination. Not unjustifiably so – as this is the second most visited region in Spain after Catalonia.
Yet the Canaries are not all birds of a feather. As whilst the bigger islands such as Tenerife have long since been buried beneath a sea of hotels and apartment complexes little Lanzarote has managed to remain relatively unspoiled.

This concert hall is designed by Santiago Calatrava, which is known for such landmarks as the City of Arts (Valencia), the Montjuic Communications Tower (Barcelona) and BCE Place (Toronto). The auditorium is located on the waterfront in the port area of Santa Cruz, Tenerife and connects the city to the ocean, creates a significant urban landmark. The concert hall features the architect’s signature wing effect – a single wing that seems to enfold the building without covering it entirely.
