One of the largest and best known cinemas in Moscow

This cultural monument has been marred by years of neglect but… The Union of Russian Architects, in co-operation with DuPont, YEM, Architizer and Karo Film, are pleased to announce an international competition to redesign the facade of the Pushkinsky Cinema, not to restore it to past glory but to create a landmark of the future. The Pushkinsky Cinema was built to display the most significant cinematic productions in Russia. Built at Pushkin Square, it became the landmark of the country’s film festivals, a palace in that the Moscow International Film Festivals (MIFF) for movie protagonists and moviegoers from Moscow and abroad.

State Tretyakov Gallery

This spectacular museum is is one of the largest museums in the world. Located in Moscow, it bears name of its founder – local merchant and textile manufacturer Pavel Tretyakov. The gallery’s history starts in 1856 when Pavel Tretyakov bought several works by Russian artists with the aim of creating a collection and became famous from the minute it was opened to the public in 1870.  The gallery displays Russian fine arts of X -XX centuries. Offering 62 rooms and 130,000 works icons, paintings, graphics and sculpture, State Tretyakov Gallery is considered as a must-see destination for all visitors to Moscow.

Russian Church, Sofia

Directly beyond the Natural History Museum, with its five golden onion domes, sits the small and beautiful ornate Russian Church. Built from 1912-1914, to appease a Russian diplomat afraid to worship in Bulgarian churches, the church is named after St. Nikolai “The miracle maker”. To this day wishes are written on slips of paper and placed in the wooden box by the white marble sarcophagus of Bishop Serafim (1881-1950), who is buried in the crypt. Although never canonised, he is revered by many Bulgarians as a saint. The gold domes were recently re-gilded with gold leaf donated by the Patriachate of Moscow, making the Russian church one of Sofia‘s most attractive photo motives.

Saint Basil the Blessed

St.Basil cathedral

The Cathedral of Basil the Blessed, is a Russian Orthodox cathedral erected on the Red Square in Moscow in 1555–1561. The Monument to Minin and Pozharsky is made of bronze. Not particularly large, it consists of nine chapels, built on a single foundation. According to legend, however, it was built by an Italian architect who was blinded so that he could never create anything that was similar or equal. The St. Basil’s Cathedral, along with the Red Square were inscribed by Unesco as World Heritage Sites in 1990!
