Far closer to Africa than to Spain, the sub-tropical Canary Islands are known for their budget sun and sand – although, as they are volcanic, the latter is often a rather uninviting shade of charcoal. Solutions have been found by importing golden sand from the Sahara 200 km away, and by building saltwater lidos. Nonetheless, the balmy year-round climate, cooled to a steadt 25-30º C by marine currents, has ensured that these seven islands have not only fabulously lush vegetation, including a sufeit of bananas, but also a constant flow visitors.

In the 1700s, looming volcanic cones sprayed Lanzarote with molten lava, redefining the vista into a surreal, jagged environment. To some, bedding down in a valley between two volcanic comes may not sound like a sleep – inducing experience, but British owners Tarnya and Richard Norse-Evans have created a tranquil hideaway here on the island.

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. The seven specks of Spain which are located off the coast of Morocco in the Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago has long had something of a reputation as a package tourist destination. Not unjustifiably so – as this is the second most visited region in Spain after Catalonia.
Yet the Canaries are not all birds of a feather. As whilst the bigger islands such as Tenerife have long since been buried beneath a sea of hotels and apartment complexes little Lanzarote has managed to remain relatively unspoiled.

Yesterday when i was searching for a particular volcano images at Google Earth i stumbled upon an island called
Lanzarote, which one of the Canary Islands (
Spanish islands). I have wondered for a moment why the results are taking me to this island and after reading some info i was amazed. I found out that
Lanzarote is also known as the island of 100 volcanoes. Its volcanic origin has created a landscape with more than 300 volcanoes indeed.
