Guests may not expected to find a luxury country house hotel on a small island off the coast of Estonia. Certainly Padaste Manor is a unique escape: a fabulous conversion of a historic estate in a stunning location. For 700 years, Padaste was the country estate of the Von Buxhoeveden family. The crescent of grand buildings facing the sea dates from the nineteenth-century, to when the wealthy Baron Axel von Buxhoeveden was imperial hunting master at the court of Czar Nicholas II. This was his family’s summer home, but Von Buxhoeveden was assassinated by revolutionaries as he left the manor one day in 1919.

Hiiumaa is a bleak but breathtakingly beautiful island in the Eastern Baltic, a nature reserve that covers an area of just under 1,000 sq km. It is Estonia‘s second largest island, separated from the mainland by 22 k wide strait and surrounded by some 200 deserted islets and reefs, where, over the centuries hundreds of ships have come to grief. The capital of Estonia is small city – one of the most enchanting cities in Europe with tourist areas easily explored on foot. Tallinn is a blend of modern city filled with boutiques, sports centers, hotels, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs and medieval turrets and narrow, cobbled streets set beneath of 14th century churches. In 1997 UNESCO inscribes Tallinn on World Heritage List.

This is Jaegala Fall, which is located in Lahemma National Park in Estonia. It’s a beautiful waterfall measuring 7.8 m high. The falls have created a 984.2 foot valley that is 12-14 m high.

Wife carrying is a sport in which male competitors race while each carrying female partners. The Wife Carrying World Championship takes place every year in the Finnish province of Sonkajarvi, but similar events have now sprung up around the world. And the prize is … the winning wife’s weight in beer. Prizes are also rewarded for the most entertaining couple, the strongest carrier, and the best costume. The date of this year’s event is July 4, 2009.

Valaste waterfall is known to the highest not only in
Estonia, but also in the Baltic States. It is located along the Ontika cliff, which is 56 m high, and has a fall of 26 m. It’s a popular tourist attraction with its spray freezing up spectacularly in winter.
