The Black Diamond

Built in 1999, the “Black Diamond” is a modern extension to the Royal Danish Library which is the largest library in the Nordic countries. The old library dates from 1906 and was designed by architect Hans J. Holm. Located at the waterfront of Copenhagen, this new library building is designed by the Danish architects Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen. Contains a library, concert hall, bookshop, café, exhibition space and restaurant, it is the first in a series of large-scale cultural buildings along Copenhagen’s waterfront.

The strangest suburbs ever

No, this isn’t a screenshot from the latest SimCity computer game or from the Facebook Farmville. These circular structures form a little community located in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The city has a multitude of districts, each representing its time and with its own distinctive character, making up a dense urban fabric. The photos are part of the project “Earth From Above” which is a result of five-year airborne odyssey across six continents of the local photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

One of the oldest museums in the world

The Kolkata Indian Museum is considered as the largest museum in India. Established on 2 February, 1814 at the cradle of the Asiatic Society Building, it is the earliest museum in the Asia Pacific region. Founded by Dr Nathaniel Wallich (a botanist from Denmark), the museum is included as an Institute of national importance in the seventh schedule of the Constitution of India (It is an independent institution funded by the Government of India). Placed in Italian architectural style building designed by Walter B Grawille, the Indian Museum has over 60 galleries and is divided into six main sectors.

“Little Paris of the North”

Situated in the middle of North Jutland, Aalborg is the fourth largest town in Denmark. Founded by the Vikings, this is a lively city offers lots of fun and exciting experiences for the young as well as the not so young. If you take a walk down the pedestrian area you will find that there is a great atmosphere and a lot of fine old buildings. This is a city full of life and charm – both day and night. There is a variety of tourist attractions and sights plus many exciting activities and events.

Lunds Konsthall

Lund Konsthall Museum is a result of a donation from the Old Savings’ Bank (today’s Finn Savings’ Bank) to the City of Lund, Sweden. In 1953 the City Council decided to accept the gift and invited six architects for a competition to design the new kunsthalle. Lund Konsthall has not fully retained its original architectural expression, but it has escaped thorough reconstruction. In 2004 it underwent a lighter renovation, aiming at restoring as much as possible of the original architecture.

Lisager Cafe

Located in Aarhus, Denmark Lisager is the modern lifestyle store with a wide variety of wine and delicacies, together with offering café, restaurant and catering. This commercial cafe interior design was created by the local designers Lars Fischer and Lars Villumsen. Roskilde

Roskilde was once the medieval capital of Denmark located at the end of Roskilde fjord and just 20 minutes by trains from the busy Copenhagen. Once an old Viking area, but today a modern city with the old town well preserved, Roskilde has several mayor tourist attractions: the Roskilde Cathedral, which for centuries has been the Danish Royal Family sepulchral church, the Viking Ship Museum with over 60 vessels, and the worldwide known Roskilde Festival.
