Park Guell – undoubtedly among the top 10 sights to visit in Barcelona

Guell park contains amazing stone structures, stunning tiling and fascinating buildings-everything in the park is wonderful. It was designed by the catalan architect Antonio Gaudi. It contains the home of the architect Gaudi which is now a small museum.It was declared a universal monument by UNESCO in 1984. Gaudi avoided leveling the grounds so that the park has a network of twisting roads which follow the contours of the land. He divided the land into 60 plots between 1000 and 2000 square meters in size. Park Guell was originally commissioned as a private housing estate of sixty dwelling for Gaudi’s patron, Don Eusebio Guell. In the end, however, only two houses were ever built and the area was subsequently opened as a public park in 1922.

La Sagrada Familia – The triumph of the Catholic Church

La Sagrada Familia is a large Roman Catholic basilica under construction in Barcelona, Spain. La Sagrada Familia is one of Gaudi’s most famous works in Barcelona and one of Barcelona’s most characteristic buildings. Antoni Gaudí worked on the project for over 40 years. The first stone was placed on 1882, on the festival of St. Joseph. After Gaudi’s death in 1926, work continued under the direction of Dominick Sugranyes until interrupted by the Spanish Civil War in 1935.

The stadium, built between 1954 and 1957, was designed by architects Francesc Mitjans-Miro, Lorenzo García Barbon and Josep Soteras Mauri, and financed to a large
extent by Francisco Franco’s dictatorial regime. It was inaugurated on September 24,
1957. After the hymn, Hallelujah was sung, FC Barcelona played the Polish team, Legia
Warsaw. FC Barcelona won their first game at Camp Nou in impressive fashion, a 4-2
victory with Eulogio Martínez scoring the first goal at the new stadium. Over 90,000
fans were present at this momentous occasion.
