Saint Basil the Blessed

St.Basil cathedral

The Cathedral of Basil the Blessed, is a Russian Orthodox cathedral erected on the Red Square in Moscow in 1555–1561. The Monument to Minin and Pozharsky is made of bronze. Not particularly large, it consists of nine chapels, built on a single foundation. According to legend, however, it was built by an Italian architect who was blinded so that he could never create anything that was similar or equal. The St. Basil’s Cathedral, along with the Red Square were inscribed by Unesco as World Heritage Sites in 1990!

Kazan Kremlin

The Kazan Kremlin is only surviving Tatar complex that remains a unique architectural and historical monuments, consists of several unique, distinctive and inimitable features. The general space of the Kremlin makes 150 thousand sq. m. External perimeter of walls is about 1800 meters. In XVI-XVII centuries there were 13 towers but today only eight are preserved. On November 30, 2000 the historical-architectural complex of the Kazan Kremlin was enrolled into the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Kizhi Island

Kizhi Island is one of over 1650 islands of Lake Onega, in the Karelia Republic in Russia. Located approximately 300 km from St. Petersburg, Onega Lake is the second largest lake in Europe after Lake Ladoga. Kizhi is one of the largest open air museums in Russia, features a beautiful ensemble of 83 wooden structures, most of which date back to the 16th.

The “Wind Dam” Project

This is a project to UK architects Chetwoods Associates. They show a way to power-generating, which they call “Wind Dam”. The architects use a giant spinnaker sail slung between mountains gorge near Lake Lagoda Russian Federation.

National Library of Minsk – one architectural diamond

The National Library of Belarus, Minsk
is a curious structure that was just completed in 2006. The library is located in new 72 meter tall building in Minsk. It has 22 floors. There are a number of biblical quotations inscribed on the building’s facade, in Belorussian, Russian, English and Arabic, amongst others.

Saint Petersburg

Saint Petersburg is a city and a federal subject of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city’s other names were Petrograd and Leningrad. Founded by Emperor Peter the Great on May 27, 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years. Saint Petersburg ceased being the capital in 1918 after the Russian Revolution of 1917. It is Russia’s second largest and Europe’s fourth largest city (by city limit) after Moscow, London and Paris. 4.6 million people live in the city, and over 6 million people live in the city’s vicinity. Saint Petersburg is a major European cultural center, and important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. It is often described as the most Western European styled city of Russia.
