There are so many incredible photos… it is very difficult to choose…. This is Ilulissat Icefjord which is located 250 km north of the Arctic Circle and is the biggest natural attraction in Greenland. Owing to gigantic icebergs, the glacier flows at a rate of 20-35 m per day, resulting in around 20 billion tones of icebergs. In 2004 was admitted onto UNESCO’s World Heritage List. It has been the object of scientific attention for 250 years and is today at the centre of the huge international focus on global warming thanks to extensive media coverage.

Once a Viking assembly ground and site of a legendary battle against the ‘Berserkers‘, a terrifying warrior cult, Samso lies 15 km off the east coast of Jutland. It is only 28 km long with a complex, indented coastline linking its two district parts, North Island and South Island. These ancient islands were joined at the end of the Ice Age, when the melting glacier waters washed up deposits that created the landscape around Stavns Fjord – a strikingly beautiful conservation area of more than 1,500 hectares of low-lying heathland, meadows and reefs. The highest point is Ballebjerg in North Island, a region of lovely countryside perfect for biking and walking, while South Island is open farming land with picturesque villages, manor houses and harbours with lovely views over the Baltic. The tiny island of Heligoland, 70 km off the German coast, towers up unexpectedly, its dramatic rust-coloured cliffs rising up to 61 m high out of the grey emptiness of the North Sea. It is a geological mystery – although its bedrock is limestone, like the White Cliffs of Dover, the island itself is composed of layers of sandstone, unlike any other rock form in the region.
