Port Louis is the capital of the island of Mauritius. In previous times it was used only during summer (due to prevailing winds) by the Dutch and the French since the 1600′s, and early 1700′s. However, it took all its importance when, in 1735 Labourdonnais decided to make Port Louis the main harbour and the administration headquarters of Mauritius. The capital has a residential population of above 150,000 but receives as much visitors during daytime as it is first of all the city of businesses.

The black box with big white letters stands inconspicuously on the Altonaer balcony (in Altonaer Museum) in the beautiful harbour scenery in Hamburg. If the sun is shining – don’t be scared, just go in and close the door behind you. When you get indise it’s advisible to wait a few seconds till your eyes acclimatise to the dark. You’ll see the harbour upside down moving projected picture on a white wall. The Camera Obscura is invented in times of Renaissance also know as pinhole camera. It is a camera without a lens and a single very small aperture. The smaller the hole, the sharper the projection, an upside down and right-left reversed picture.

La Ciutadella Park is a place for readers and writers, to take the kids to play football and run around, for families to have a picnic, a place for the elderly, for lovers and friends, a place for party. La Ciutadella Park is where everything is possible if the weather’s on your side and this is easy to find in Barcelona where almost never rains. After its establishment during the mid 19 century, it was for decades the only green area in the city. It is located at the northeastern edge of the old town, and hosts within its 70 acres the city’s substantial zoo (which was home to the famous albino gorilla Snowflake), the Parliament of Catalonia, a lake, some museums, and a fountain of considerable size designed by Gaudi.

QUITO, the capital of Ecuador, was once a stopover for tourists heading to the Galapagos. Its Old Town was a maze of litter-strewn streets and dilapidated colonial facades, and its New Town was known for raucous partying and muggings. However, the things start to turn around thanks to a revitalization campaign initiated in 2001 that has poured hundreds of millions of dollars in public and private investment into neglected neighborhoods. Renovation of old historic structures and construction of cultural places and hotels have made Quito more visited today, and a strengthened Policía de Turismo has made the streets safer.

Many people have heard about Dada art movement but few realise that it originated in the Niederdorf in Zurich in 1916, in partnership with Cabaret Voltaire. The house was preserved and reopened in 2002 to the public as a musem. However last summer its cafe was turned into a bar and Duda was born. The name of the cafe is a play on words coming from Dada and the German for ‘you there’. It’s a pity because few people know about the bar, as you have to walk through the museum shop – great for unusual gifts – to get to it, and because Duda is not allowed to advertise itself on the historical facade.

Seurasaari Island is one of the best thing to do in Helsinki, if you want to run from the urban areas of the city. Seurasaari is also an open air museum: there are 78 old wooden buildings from all over the Finland. The cottages, farmsteads and manors are from the past four centuries. You can get a guided tour if you want to or just walk slowly on your own through the green area. The houses are open only in summertime, but the island is worth of exploring in winter as well.

Kid or not – who would not be impressed in front of over 10 meter long dinosaur? I tell you – this is one cool spot to visit in Helsinki! Tyler Brule is one of my favourite journalist and he often flatters Helsinkians with his writings about Helsinki – like he did with his FT-writing – how cozy a place Helsinki is.
