Cap Rocat, Majorca

Cap Rocat is a 19th-century former military fortress along the southern edge of the Bay of Palma de Majorca, Spain. Local architect Antonio Obrador imbued the hotel with cues that hark back to its past (guest rooms built in former munitions stores; stylized bullets for door handles). Add private terraces furnished with all-weather canopy beds, an infinity pool, and easy access to the bathwater-warm Mediterranean for sailing, diving, and waterskiing excursions, and this island getaway certainly hits the spot.

Today there is a strong current of activism and subversion in urban art. Street art become very powerful platform for reaching the public, and frequent themes include adbusting, subvertising and other culture jamming, the abolishment of private property and reclaiming the streets. New York City, Brooklyn: While many street artists have migrated in recent years from Williamsburg to less-trammeled Brooklyn neighborhoods (Bushwick is the latest open-air gallery), swaths of art still adorn the streets and alleys of “Billyburg.” Prime viewing areas include North 6th Street (around Berry Street and Wythe Avenue), Ainslie Street (just east of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway), and Roebling Street—where, as of this writing, a towering radio-controlled giraffe by artist Nick Walker decorates a wall just south of Metropolitan Avenue.

One Urban World Festival

One Urban World Festival is held in Cartagena, Spain. Each year the streets of Cartagena are decorated and most of the squares swarm with djs, beatmakers, rap musicians, hippsters and graffatti artists, all part of One Urban Festival. In addition to this year program artists Ross, Suso33, Pixel Panxo, or M Kraser Mati, among others, have already begun work, cans in hand, to translate his works in different parts of the old town of Cartagena as the Callejon de la Soledad, next to Teatro Romano or windlass and around Monte Sacro.

Museum aan de Stroom

The MAS is an impressive building with a museum, among other things. Because it is also the visible storage, the museum square with Luc Tuymans’ mosaic, the boulevard, the rooftop panorama, etc. The MAS is a total experience. Nowdays, Antwerp has its own iconic piece of museum architecture and it’s poised to make the medieval Flemish town a global destination. The Museum aan de Stroom opened last weekend to an estimated 100,000 visitors, including the Belgian royal family.

Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden is one of the great escapes of Johannesburg. The gardens are nestled in Roodepoort, Gauteng, which  is a haven for birds and a popular picnic spot for Gautengers. In recent years, there is an urban development on this beautiful garden, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Witpoortjie waterfall. However is still the home of a breeding pair of Verreaux’s Eagles that nest in the cliffs alongside the waterfall and no visit is complete until they have been sited.
