This village was founded in the 15th century. Located 25 km to the northeast of Smolyan, at an altitude of 1000 m in the valley of the Shiroka Luka River in the West Rhodopes Mountain, Bulgaria. The village has preserved the rich traditions of the local population – handcrafts, songs, dances, customs. It was built during the National Revival period, 18th-19th century. There are 90 houses from that period, which have been fully preserved and kept as cultural monuments, as well as 6 arch-shaped stone bridges, 2 churches, a small school, numerous shops and craftsmen’s workshops.

Grandma Martha is one of the most revered Bulgarian rites, which has been preserved from ancient times to the present day. This is a centuries-long Bulgarian tradition symbolizing the end of the winter and the coming spring. On the 1st March, everyone gives his or her relatives and friends a martenitsa – twisted red and whire threads – and makes a wish for health and happiness with the words: ” Many happy returns of Grandma Martha”.

The Stob Pyramids are located near the village of Stob, in the western approaches of the Rila Mountain, next to the Rila Monastery, Bulgaria. These are stone andearth formations, 30-40 m deep. The sediments are colored rusty-brown, reddish and dark yellow and, because of their location, the pyramids are especially beautiful at sunset or at moonlight. Many of the formations are crowned with rock “hats” – large stone blocks sizing 120 by 80 cm.

They are a group of lakes situated in the Rila Mountains, Bulgaria. The Seven Rila Lakes are one of the most picturesque and most visited places in Bulgaria. They are arranged in a step-like pattern in a natural circus amphitheater, which is the largest in all of Rila Mountain. The Lakes are all named according to their shapes and officially numbered from the top to the bottom – between 2,100 and 2,500 m above sea level.

The Rogozen treasure was found by chance in 1985 in the village of Rogozen, some 43 km away from the town of Vratza.
The treasure consists of hundred and eight phials, fifty-four jugs and three goblets. All the objects are silver and some with a golden gilt. The ornamentation, embossed in relief, is different in every case.
