This futuristic design by Australia-based architects Lacoste+Stevenson was submitted for the Busan Opera House competition. The emulation invited entries from all over the wotld to design a landmark Opera House, which is to be constructed in 2014 with the goal of increasing tourism to the city of Busan, South Korea. Aiming to maximize on the surrounding parkland as well as to make the architecture perceptive for great outdoor events, the project features moveable frontage parts that open and close to meet the needs of a huge range of events.

Conceived due to a shiny and scaleless object, the globular size is an plan of “Suseok”, a Korean stone art imagine. When not in use, the edifice is seamlessly closed to posture as an autonomous presence on site. Access is provided by an extensive gangway that can be lowered from the north end of the structure. On the opposite side, a section of the facade slides to offer a grandiose view of the bay beyond. Inside the building, a grand stairway to the lobby a soaring extract rising 45 meters (148 feet) high. The main interior foyer benefits from an uncommonly high vertical space which is generated by placing the concert chamber above the opera theatre. Taking full advantage of the generous plot of parkland, an outdoor venue for more than 20,000 people can be created by a vertical piece that slides up to open the stage to the east.

The rear facade opens upwards in that an amphitheater case event, featuring an enormous media screen built from thousands of trivial LED lights. Photovoltaic cells are embedded in the exterior of the structure, generating enough energy to power the media screen, with excess power supplied to the general operation of the opera house.

South Korea is one of the hardest working country in the world and now people there can shop for groceries at virtual stores while they wait for the subway train. The United Kingdom based grocery chain – Tesco has opened virtual stores in Seoul‘s subway station under the name Homeplus, permitting users to shop using their smart phones while waiting for their trains.

It works like this: customers download the free Homeplus app onto their smart phone. Then they open an account with their home address and method of payment. Once the customer pays for the items, he or she can request a time for their groceries to be delivered right to their doorstep. In these Seoul subway stations, large LED screens advertising everything. Designed to look like a series of supermarket shelves, they display images and prices of a range of all kinds of products – fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, juice, etc. designed to look exactly like a real market. Every item depicted on those virtual shelves has a QR code next to it. If a customer sees an item they want they simply snap a photo of the QR code. And the groceries are delivered to their home. This innovative concept was developed with very busy people in mind or people who loathe the chore of grocery shopping when all they want to do is relax at home. Shanghai and Beijing are now following Seoul, Korea’s footsteps by having a virtual supermarket at their subway stations.

The entire park is designed around a lake than contains a statue of two pairs of upside-down legs entangled around each other. Loveland started way back in 2002, when 20 artists, graduates of Hongik University in Seoul, started creating what would form to be Korea’s only sexual theme park. It has elements such as large phallus statues and hands-on exhibits such as a “masturbation-cycle.” Sensual sculptures adorn the borders of the lake, ranging from two fully-dressed lovers who are leaning over and kissing discreetly, to a collection of descriptive sexual positions seemingly based from cultures around the world.

The Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes together comprise 18,846 ha and are added to UNESCO’ World Heritage List.

The island is mix of dramatic landscape, lush subtropical forests, lava caves, sandy beaches, spectacular craters, and majestic waterfalls. Also there is the Mount Halla – the highest peak in Korea, poised in the middle of the Island.

The frequent rains and temperate climate make it very similar to the Hawaiian Islands. The island offers visitors a wide range of activities: hiking on Halla-san, riding horses or just lying around on the sandy beaches.

It’s a really strange building located in Suwon, South Korea, only 40km of Seoul. It’s the “first appearance largest toilet sculptures” organized and owned by Sim Jae-duck, chairman of the World Association of toilet. Today, around 40% of the world’s population doesn’t get to use hygienic toilets and he used this symbol of disease to bring forth the reality of two million people.

This toilet-shaped house costs $1.6 million and spreads over 420 sq m. In the center of the house is a glass-walled bathroom which features a device producing mist to make sure users do not feel too exposed. The glass structure offers four deluxe toilets—one of which includes a misting device that helps users “feel more secure” and electronic motion sensors that lift and lower the lid when needed. Also you can rent the house for an absurd $50,000 a day.

Jon Dunbar is a great traveler and photographer. Today I’m going to present you his last urban exploring in South Korea – the Boeing 747 restaurant, looming huge over the highway, and yet dwarfed by a swarm of apartment buildings all around.

Jon says: “Thanks to the helpful people at Urban Exploration Resource I discovered that this was the second Boeing 747 ever made and apparently the first to be flown commercially.”

This is somewhat surreal shot: it almost looks like this Jumbo 747 landed on a poor little building, which still tries to be cheerful with all these painted Pokemons and a satellite dish:

The menu, and typical restaurant bar trinkets.

This impressive gate, with its magnificent Korean-style roof, is the oldest wooden structure in Seoul. It’s dates from the construction of Seoul’s old city walls in 1398. Originally a grand entrance to the city of Seoul, today Sungnyemun Gate marks the southern boundary of the old city center. Due to its historical and architectural value, it’s been designated Korea’s National Treasure, like a symbol of Korea’s blending of the ancient and modern.

The gate, itself, is made of granite blocks forming a huge granite block with an arched passage through the middle. Resting on top of this structure is a traditional two-story pavilion. It was rebuilt after being almost totally destroyed during the 1950-1953 Korean War and in 1962 was declared as South Korea‘s National Treasure.

A fire on Feb. 10, 2008 destroyed Seoul’s historic landmark gate, the more than 600-year-old Sungnyemun gate. Some 30 fire trucks and nearly 130 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze, needing five hours to put out the blaze. The Seoul Metropolitan Government will make every cooperative measure with the Cultural Heritage Administration to rebuild the Gate. Official estimate to the restoration will cost $21 million and take 2-3 years.
