Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain forming an undoubted symbol of Cape Town, South Africa. Table Mountain is an important tourist attraction offers great hiking trails and stunning views over the city and its surroundings. The highest point of Table Mountain is Maclear’s Beacon at 1,086 m above sea level. It is a great destination for both young and old. There’s a cafeteria where you can enjoy a mile-high meal.

The Table Mountain Park is recognized globally for its extraordinarily rich, diverse and unique fauna and flora – with rugged cliffs, steep slopes and sandy flats – is a truly remarkable natural, scenic, historical, cultural and recreational asset both locally and internationally. Botanists estimate that more than 1,000 plant species are found here, ranging from Regal Protea to ground-hugging ferns.

There are numerous trails for the hiker to walk up the mountain. However, most visitors take the aerial cable car to the top. The car is quite different than most, as it has a floor that rotates 360° as it ascends the mountain. With a strong desire to gain easy access to the top of Table Mountain, the Cape Town City Council commissioned an engineer to investigate the various options of transport to the top.

In 1926 the Norwegian engineer – Trygve Stromsoe, presented plans for a cableway to the top of Table Mountain. The idea that an easy route up would finally become a reality drew them together, forming the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company to finance the construction. Since it’s opening in 1929, over 16 million people have taken the trip to the top of Table Mountain.

Grand Daddy is a very interesting hotel situated in Cape Town, South Africa. The Grand Daddy’s big talking point is its trailer park, where a collection of vintage Airstream caravans sited on the rooftop. Each of the 7 two-sleeper caravans have been designed by local artists.

The hotel is part of Daddy Long Legs Group. The philosophy is simple, excellent service, clean and comfortable rooms. The hospitable staff of the hotel will help you through the gentle journey about the surroundings of the hotel and the history of the city.

The vintage caravans were designed by studio Whatiftheworld, which tasked local artists with decorating a space with a motif of their choice. They ended with a concept ranged from The Ballad of John & Yoko, adorned with a guitar and simple white interior, to Goldilocks and The Three Bears, which has a quaint storybook feel to it.

The two-person Airstreams are situated neatly around the rooftop bar, which is open for afternoon drinks to guests and just the plain curious alike.Rooms in the hotel start at 945 rands ($90) and can be booked through Tablet.

Here I show you the biggest diamond rush which the world has ever seen. Kimberley (the capital of the Northern Cape, South Africa) is famous with the Big Hole. It’s a huge open-pit diamond mine and claimed to be the largest hole excavated by hand. 50,000 miners dug a almost circular hole with a surface area of about 17 hectares, a perimeter of about 1,6 km and depth around of 215m, right in the middle of the town.

In 2006 De Beers (the owner) invested about USD 7.7 million for the reconstruction of the site. It includes an open air museum showing the history of diamond mining at Kimberley. The recent renovation is a cantilevered platform above the rim of the hole. It allows the visitors a vertical view down into the hole, as it protrudes across the rim like a half suspension bridge. A tour of the Big Hole is interesting with the new visitor center which is open every day of the year except for Christmas Day and Good Friday.
Singita Boulders is the part of the Singita Group of Lodges. It’s comprised of a number of smaller reserves that have set the bar for all of Africa, with their luxurious, intimate and classy lodges. A stay at Singita is about many things: remarkable design, innovative food and wine combined with exceptional hospitality.

Interiors are lavish in their simplicity and celebrate earthy colors in sandy browns, soft beige and caramel hues. Wood and stone are effectively used to create an effortless space that marries the modern world to the ancient one inspired by nature. Rough-hewn timber, leather and stone meet thatch and wild views. The decor is juxtaposed between the textures of Africa and carefree lines of an occasional retro classic. Quiet, simple and luxurious, guests love nothing better than to relax in the open-air lounge.

The Lodge has nine double suites each with en-suite bathroom, outside shower, fireplace, air-conditioning and game-viewing deck with private plunge pool. Boulders Lodge offers a relaxed opulence and one of the most beautiful locations in the Sabi Sand Reserve… it is pure African Zen. Guests at Singita will encounter something truly original: a cuisine inspired by African flavors yet guided by the Western culinary tradition. Complementing the menu is Singita’s hidden treasure: the best bush cellar in Africa. Buried deep in the cool rock below Boulders, the cellar boasts a truly unique and comprehensive cross section of over 12,000 bottles of South African and International wines.

A very elegant safari destination, Singita Game Reserves in South Africa is about wildlife, community and conservation and every ounce of luxury you could want. You can drive between leopards and antelope, as well as lions and buffalo, and a multitude of other animals, including giraffe, baboons, elephants, owls, hippos, rhinos and eagles. In addition, its lodges have notched up a number of awards – including being named second on the Travel and Leisure Magazine’s Top 100 Hotels Overall list of 2007.

It is located in the south-west corner of the country near the Cape of Good Hope, and is the most southern city in Africa. It is a stone’s throw from South Africa’s world-famous Cape Winelands around Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek. Cape Town is also known as the Mother City in South Africa.

Cape town is a place where old and new harmoniously converge – in history, architecture, cultural pursuits and the essence of its people. Warmed by the African sun, the city is dominated by a towering, table-shaped mountain, set on a peninsula of soaring, rocky heights and lush valleys, where two oceans converge- Indian and Atlantic. Boundless natural beauty, a pleasant life , a lot of cultures and different people mixed in the unique Cape town.

The city has several well-known natural features that attract tourists, most notably Table Mountain. Many tourists also drive along Chapman’s Peak Drive, a narrow road that links Noordhoek with Hout Bay, for the views of the Atlantic Ocean and nearby mountains. Many tourists also visit Cape Town’s beaches, which are popular with local residents. Due to the city’s unique geography, it is possible to visit several different beaches in the same day, each with a different setting and atmosphere. Beaches located on the Atlantic Coast tend to have very cold water as the water is mostly glacial melt from Antarctica.

The city has several notable cultural attractions. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, built on top of part of the docks of the Port of Cape Town, is one of the city’s most popular shopping venues, with several hundred shops and the Two Oceans Aquarium.
Cape Town is noted for its architectural heritage, with the highest density of Cape Dutch style buildings in the world. Cape Dutch style, which combines the architectural traditions of the Netherlands, Germany and France, is most visible in Constantia, the old government buildings in the Central Business District, and along Long Street.
Night life in the city caters for all tastes and preferences, with a range of restaurants and cafes that are generally recognized as including some of the finest eateries in South Africa (both in food quality and decor terms). Night clubs and bars abound with popular areas including the top end of Long Street.

The Southern coast of Africa and the incomparable Garden Route offer some of the most outstanding scenery to be found anywhere in the world – from the top of Table Mountain by revolving cable car to the mythical meeting place of two great oceans at Cape Point. The coastline is a breathtaking scenic beauty contrast with the harsh rugged conditions of the most South-westerly edge of the African continent. It is a region of majestic mountains; beautiful valleys; wide, sandy beaches; and breathtaking scenery, making it one of the South Africa’s prime destinations.

At the tip of the Cape Peninsula you will find Cape Point within the Cape Peninsula National Park. The treacherous cliffs forming the most southwestern tip of Africa are some of the highest in the world and mark the spot where the cold Beguela current on the West coast and the warm Agulhus current on the East coast merge. At Cape Point, part of the Cape Peninsula National Park, there are many drives, walks, picnic spots and a licensed restaurant. Care has been taken to protect the environmental integrity of this 7 750-ha reserve of indigenous flora and fauna.Depart for a full day Cape Peninsula tour. Travel via Houtbay to the Cape of Good Hope for a visit. The journey continues to Cape Point, often referred to as the “meeting point” of the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans. The Cape Point Nature Reserve was created to protect the southern most tip of the Peninsula which is home to an assortment of indigenous fauna and flora. A visit to the Cape Pont Ostrich Farm followed by lunch. After lunch continue to Simonstown, home of the South African Navy. Close by Boulders Beach, to enjoy the African Penguin Colony by walking along specially constructed timber walkways to view these amazing birds in their natural environment. Afterwards to enjoy a guided tour at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The garden has 9000 of the 18000 indigenous flowering plant species. An early Ocean Beach Reserve was established at Sorrento last century and walking tracks and shelters were built. Cape Schanck Coastal Park was established in 1975. It became Point Nepean National Park in 1988, when part of the historic Point Nepean area, previously closed to the public for more than 100 years, was transferred from the Commonwealth to the State. The park was renamed Mornington Peninsula National Park in 1995 and the historic section of Point Nepean, Point Nepean National Park in 2005. A number of vegetation communities, particularly coastal grassy forests, banksia woodlands and sand heathlands, have been greatly depleted since European settlement and are of particular conservation significance.

Hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists visit South Africa every year, and of these visitors plan a stop in Cape Town, the pride of the southern African subcontinent. Blessed with blue skies a balmy climate a rich cultural heritage and a magnificent backdrop of ocean and mountain, the Mother City boasts a profusion of museums, art galleries, restaurants, shops, theatres, night spots and landmarks.

Presided over by Table Mountain and skirted by the Atlantic Ocean and a string exquisite beaches, top attractions include the bustling Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the famed Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Cape of Good Hope Natural Reserve, the Cape Winelands, and Robben Island.

The top of Table Mountain offers spectacular views in all directions and gives a birds eye view of the city. The upper cable car station is situated at 1067 metres and the revolving cablecar makes sure that your trip up and down gives you a good look in all directions.

The famous Robben Island, whose prison was once home to former South African president Nelson Mandela as well as many other black political freedom fighters, is now a World Heritage Site and provides stunning views across the bay with Table Mountain as its backdrop. A trip to the island is an unforgettable experience and offers a glimpse into the life and times of the apartheid era. Daily tours to the island include the ferry trip there and back, an island tour and a tour of the prison with a fomer political prisoner as your guide. Allow three and a half hours for the trip (this includes the 1/2 hour ferry trip each way) and book in advance. Ferries leave at regular intervals throughout the day from the Clock Tower precint at the V&A Waterfront.

A visit to one of the many townships surrounding the city is an experience that will open your eyes to the way in which the biggest portion of Cape Town’s population are living. Despite difficult circumstances and poor living conditions, you will experience the vibrancy and spirit of the South African people.

From the family beaches on the False Bay coastline to the trendy Clifton beaches on the Atlantic Seaboard – you’re sure to find a stretch of sand that suits your fancy.Boulders Penguin Colony is home to a growing colony of the vulnerable African Penguin. Wooden walkways allow visitors to view the penguins in their natural habitat and there is also a new information centre. Children will love the penguins and their antics and Boulders Beach is also worth a stop for safe and enjoyable swimming. The wine farms of Stellenbosch are the closest in distance to Cape Town and are within a 45-minute drive of the city centre. This is the most well known wine region and is home to a variety of cellars- producing some of the country’s most acclaimed wines. The town of Stellenbosch is a univeristy town and the oak-lined Dorp Street is home to museums and galleries as well as many student cafes and restaurants.Wine tasting, cellar tours and stopping to enjoy the scenic beauty at the various wine farms could easily take a day or more, so it is advisable to have a rough idea of where you would like to go before you set out. Many of the wine estates have become very tourist orientated offering guided tours, gift shops and restaurants while at some of the small estates you may end up sitting in a rustic cellar sipping wines with the wine maker himself. Different experiences appeal to different people, but whether it’s big or quaint you prefer you’re sure to find something that appeals to you.Stellenbosch is home to the first offical wine route that was founded in 1971 – entrances to wine farms are clearly sign posted and wine may be purchased at all of the cellars. Both national and international delivery can be arranged.
