Located on the shore of the beautiful Lake Bled with a magnificent view of the island, the renovated Grand Hotel Toplice will please guests with its unique style and comfort. This renovated hotel with a proud and long-standing history pampers its guests with traditional style, the harmony of its select furnishings and its sumptuous luxury. Built in 1931, the hotel is an ivy-covered stone building right at the water’s edge and is considered as one of the most romantic spots in Europe.

Designed in a charming traditional style, each of the rooms and suites is individually decorated and has its own unique character. Traditionally styled with beautiful parquet floors, rich furniture, crystal chandeliers, Persian rugs, and paintings on the walls, the rooms are luxuriously equipped with an outstanding range of facilities and benefit from superb lake views.

At the hotel you can unwind in the naturally heated swimming pool fed by thermal waters, enjoy the different saunas, a full on-site spa, solarium and wellness services. A healing water spring has its source at the hotel’s thermal bathing facility, which has a beneficial effect on the internal organs and the nervous system. There are also three wonderful restaurants serving exquisite national and international dishes, two bars and a private beach.

Literally means “Port of Roses”, Portoroz is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Adriatic coast. It is a coastal town in Slovenia and one of the country’s leading beach resorts. Often referred to as the capital of Slovenian seaside tourism, Portoroz is popular place to relax and have fun. Even active holidays enthusiasts will be attracted from the destination, since Portoroz is a destination with an exclusively wide offer of sport activities.

Situated in a corner of the impressive Bay of Piran, this is one of the warmest parts of Slovenia. With average 2346 hours of sunshine every year and mild winters, Portoroz is an ideal holiday location. It has long soft sandy beaches that are well-kept, clean and safe man-made one. Stretching along the coast they offer top-rate bathing facilities and create the excellent atmosphere of this lively, friendly resort.

Portoroz is a modern, spacious, green and well cared-for town. The wonderful seaside promenade is lined with restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs. Every night during the summer season Portoroz is transformed into a huge party place. It has a fantastic selection of cuisine, ranging from top class international restaurants to scores of eateries where the main dish of the day is seafood. The little streets of the town get crowded with people laughing, meeting and choosing a place to spend the night.

Tourism started to develop here as far back as the end of the 19th century, mainly because of the reputation it gained as a centre for health and spa facilities. As well as the spa facilities, there is a casino, many sporting facilities on the land and, of course, almost every possible water sport to try out.

Radovljica is a small historical town in Gorenjska region, Slovenia. Radovljica was a village till the 15th century and the old town centre is a fine example of the mediaeval townsfolk architecture. Located only 45km to Ljubljana and 8km to Lake Bled this old charming town boasts a wide range of sights and activities. There are a plenty of good restaurants, hotels, campings and swimming pools. The area is home to countless hiking and cycling paths, some great accommodation options including an award-winning campsite, a newly built tourist farm and several old town guest houses.

The most interesting place to tourists is the picturesque old town center. It is a veritable open air museum of beautifully restored renaissance-style buildings, narrow sloping streets and pleasant sidewalk cafes. Here is situated an apicultural museum with its ethnographic collection of beehives that is an essential part of Slovenian history and culture in general. The museum displays the rich tradition of beekeeping, which was most intense in the 18th and 19th centuries. Beekeeping museum devoted to the Slovenian passion for bees and honey in the old royal castle Thurnovgrad is not only recommended to beekeepers.

Metelkova is a city inside a city. It is also home of Ljubljana’s alternative scene, home of artists, musicians and similar crowd. Created with transforming and rebuilding ex army barracks whose walls now serve as canvas for street artists and its outdoor space as contemporary forma viva, surprise every time with new installations and creations. There architecture has its own rules. The place often draws comparisons to Copenhagen’s Christiania.

Since the beginning of its creation in 1993, Metelkova has been the object of political jockeying, with the long-term status and survival of the community uncertain. Constantly threatened by the lure of commercial development, neo-conservative politicians and internal problems within the ‘autonomous zone,’ Metelkova has endured simply through the creativity, imagination, energy and determination of the many individuals who have fought to maintain the autonomy and diversity of community, often through physical, yet non-violent, resistance.

For the urban, young visitor to Ljubljana, Metelkova is a great place to meet people and immediately get your finger on the underground pulse of Ljubljana. Remarkable simply for its existence, Metelkova is a refreshing break from the overwhelmingly homogeneous, clean and prim European atmosphere of Slovenia‘s capital; perhaps the only space that feels truly ‘urban’ in the city. People gather there mostly because of numerous music events, but also just to drink a beer and hang out with friends. There is always something going on, especially before and after summer break, when the weather is nice and people crave for an outdoor happening.

During the day, Metelkova seem a bit sleepy, however at night the place itself is a conglomerate of different clubs (Gala Hala, Channel Zero, Klub Gromka…), galleries (Alkatraz, Mizzart), hostel (Celica) and bars (Jalla Jalla…). In Jalla Jalla you get the cheapest beer in the city and if it is your first time in Slovenia you just have to try delicious honey schnapps called Medica, or a red liquor shot called Medvedova kri (bears blood).

Ljubljana castle is positioned on a small hill, serves as a perfect orientation point when you discover city center for the first time. so just leave your map at home and follow your intuition. A nice narrow street from the old city centerlead you to reach the castle (nice path starts at Greek restaurant Ati in the old part – just turn left from there and follow path with stairs). The castle is refreshed and it is worth to see architectural details.

The castle hosts an exhibition about Ljubljana history and many different events. One of my favorite is summer film festival (movies under stars) in august, showing selection of good movies from current year in castle atrium under open sky. The best thing is you can go to the top of the castle tower to observe the view over the whole city and take some amazing pictures, or sit in the cafe in the atrium having lazy few hours after city tour.

There are also great views from the castle surroundings (benches are positioned on strategic spots) which results in its popularity for romantic “first date” spot. You can see couples everywhere, sitting, kissing and hugging, and on a clear evening, watching city lights and stars at the same time can be pretty romantic indeed.

Wellnes Orhidelia is situated in Terme Olimia thermal complex in Srednje Posotelje region, Slovenia. The project is very intuitive and follows the extension of original pool complex Termalija and new Hotel Sotelia which was designed to attract also more demanding guests. The main ambition of the whole complex is to intervene as little as possible into the existing scenery trying to connect with beautiful nature of the area.

The wellness center is consecutively designed rather like a landscape arrangement then a building. Folded elevations appear like supporting walls dividing different levels of landscape surfaces. Central walking path is now stretched over the roof and enables visitors completely new, different experience of the site. On both ends, where strolling path connects with passing inner roads, it forms two smaller public squares to control the speed of vehicles and ultimately gives advantage to pedestrians over the traffic.

The regional park Kozjanski park has over forty varieties of orchids, among which the black one is the most beautiful and precious. Some admire its resemblance to the butterfly, while others hear the whispered stories of antiquity lovers and yet others are intoxicated by the mere sight of it. The Terme Olimia spa offers thermal pleasures where perfect pampering of your body and soul will enable you to experience an awaking of love. The prestigious thermal pleasures and the seducing touch of comfort will relax your body and soul and awaken your sensuality of thought, the beauty of the body and the experience of perfection.

There is also a health centre called, which slogan is the combination of medical knowledge, smiling faces and modern equipment. Thermal water is the basis of all programmes – it brings power, warmth and energy into the Health centre Olimia. The outcome of all its valuable ingredients is its medicinal, healing effect.

Located in Soca Valley in the far west of Slovenia near the border with Italy, Hisa Franko is a small boutique hotel that has been making waves far and wide. Deep in the least developed region of Slovenia, the restaurant alone is worth the trip. Run by husband and wife team Valter and Ana, the menu is eclectic – expect nettle risotto alongside scallops, bitter cacao noodles, mountain lamb, rabbit and Mediterranean tuna.

Desserts like fruit sorbet and Cuban chocolate souffle finish the meal with a flourish. All the food is organic and local. It is served in a relaxing red room with startched white tablecloth and dark-wood furniture and matched with Italian or Slovenian wine: Valter is an expert sommelier and happy to land its expertise to interesting parties. Although there is accommodations at Hisa Franco, guests visit for the food experience. It is an inspiring place for those who know their cuisine. In the summer dinning takes place in a glass-walled room, and there is also a private dining room for special occasions.

Rooms at the restaurant exhibit a similar attention to detail, with plenty of creative touches. Rooms 9 and 10 both have a separate enclosed terrace, and all are individually decorated in a modern, sleek style. The surrounding countryside is fantastic to explore, either by foot, bike, or by heading down one of the rivers on a kayak or white-water raft, and Ana can provide luxury packed lunches for all excursions. Location: Goriska, Slovenia. Photos by: jmcnally

These four Alpine cottages for two sit 2,950 feet (900 m) up in the slopes of Mount Kuk. Perched so high that you are even above the cloud level, there are staggering views across snowcapped mountains and green valleys. The wooden and stone chalet are simple but stylish, with a full glass wall looking out to the meadows and woodland rolling down the steep hillside, dotted with roaming wild deer. Photo by: Greta Hughson

A large sitting room downstairs leads to a kitchen and bathroom. Upstairs the attic bedroom has low eaved ceilings and a comfy double bed. It is minimalist without being too fashionable, with contemporary chrome lights and coffee-colored wool sofas to add warmth. Photo by: danny bean

Nebesa offers bedfellows only bed-and-breakfast, though there is a kitchen. Help yourself during the day to drinks and snacks, from local wine to cheese and cold fresh meats, all of which are included in the price package. Breakfast is put in your fridge to eat at your leisure. Photo by: lylaboco

The nearest town is fifteen minutes drive away, so you will need a car to get around. That just adds to the magical sense of isolation. If you can pull yourself away from the views and the fantastic wellness center – complete with the sauna, whirlpool tub, and heated pool – go hiking for panoramic views from Slovenia all the way to Italy. Alternatively drive to Kobarid for walks around the Soca River.
Gazing across the churning jade waters of the Soca River, it is easy to see why this magical corner of Slovenia was chosen as the background for the Chronicles of Narnia film Prince Caspian. Lucky Slovenians, do not have to travel to another world to enjoy this unspoiled alpine beauty.

The Soca River flows through the Triglav National Park, where the fresh alpine air collides with the balmy Adriatic breezes from neighboring Italy. Over thousands of years, the icy, clear waters of the river carved out the Trenta Valley. Today it is lush with green meadows and brightly coloured wildflowers. Tucked in the fertile valley, overlooked by majestic limestone peaks.

Owner Milan and Silvia Dolnec have created the perfect getaway for outdoor enthusiasts. A cluster of eight traditional wooden and stone chalets, Pristava Lepena both blends in with and takes full advantage of its magnificent natural surroundings. Guests can choose from a myriad of activities. Horse lovers relish the opportunity to trek through forests and mountains. Alternatively there are walking and mountain biking trails, tennis courts and swimming pool. The river hosts a range of water sports, including rafting, kayaking and canyoning.

The restaurant offers locally sourced, traditional cuisine, such as fresh lamb and grilled trout. Braver souls might even attempt the homemade spirits. Afterward, you can warm yourself by the open fire or sit out on our private terraces and soak in surrounding Alps. It is truly unforgettable experience.

Piran has original town architecture with a partly preserved town wall with seven mighty towers, a symbol of the past power and pride of the city. The elegant town square is focused on a statue of Tartini – an 18th Century composer, violinist and native of Pirano. The most beautiful building at the square is a Venetian Gothic Cathedral from the first half of the 15th century.

The view over Tartini Square is spectacular – breathtaking view over the town and the blue sea. Piran Town Museum contains valuable art works and archeological, historical and ethnological exhibits with special departments for seamanship, fishing and the history of the Piran salt-works.

In Slovenia there are over 7,500 explored Karsts caves, but the largest and most famous of the world is the Postojna Cave system. It was created by nature for over 2 million years and it is registered on list of the world’s natural and cultural heritage of UNESCO. Drop by drop, the water formatted its magnificent stalactites and stalagmites in breathtaking shapes. It is located only 50 km form Ljubljana (Slovenia capital) and is visited by thousands of tourists each year.

Postojna Cave system consists of approximately 20 km long underworld system, which places it among 100 longest underground complexes in the world. Today the visitors traverse this area very fast on a special cave train. The train and its railway station located at the highest point above sea level of all Slovenian stations. This is a one really pleasant experience. Also there is a cave restaurant, a concert hall for more than 10,000 people, and the cave post office.

Postojna Caves are open all year round. Visits continue one and a half hour and the temperature inside the caves is a constant 8° C.

One of the most visited castles in Slovenia is the Predjamski Castle. The castle was integrated into a natural rock arch high in mountain. Later was reformed by family Luegg, also called Predjama knights. Erazem, who was the owner of the castle in 15th century, and a renowned robber, later joined king Matthias Corvinus, for which the current Emperor ordered Gasper Ravbar to assassinate him. After a long siege of the castle, Erazem was finally killed in 1483 by being tricked. The castle has fallen under Oberburg and Purgstall power.

In 1567 archduke Karel rent the castle to baron Philipp von Cobenzl, who bought off the castle after 20 years. He annexed the castle as early as 1570 and built a renaissance building, pressed next to a vertical cliff under the castle. The castle remained in such form until today. Count Michael Coronini von Cronberg inherited the castle in 1810 and it was property of family Windischgrätz from 1846 until the end of World War II. After the war it was nationalized and is now used as a museum for showing the life of medieval lords.
