Saint Petersburg

Saint Petersburg is a city and a federal subject of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city’s other names were Petrograd and Leningrad. Founded by Emperor Peter the Great on May 27, 1703, it was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years. Saint Petersburg ceased being the capital in 1918 after the Russian Revolution of 1917. It is Russia’s second largest and Europe’s fourth largest city (by city limit) after Moscow, London and Paris. 4.6 million people live in the city, and over 6 million people live in the city’s vicinity. Saint Petersburg is a major European cultural center, and important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. It is often described as the most Western European styled city of Russia.

Slovensky Islands

The Sloventsky Islands are located in the White Sea in northwestern Russia, less than 100 miles from the arctic circle. These islands are famous with their monastery there from 15th century. The monastery was restored and today the islands’ natural beauty, spiritual significance and weighty history draw tourists of all kinds to their shores.

The largest volume on the planet

The project named Crystal Island has been approved in Moscow. Located on the Nagatino Peninsula, it is only 7.5 km from the Kremlin. At 1500ft (450m) high, the Crystal Island project won’t be the tallest piece of architecture on the planet, but covering 27 million sq ft (2.5 million sq. m) of floor space, it will be gimungeous. For comparison, the Burj Dubai, the structure that holds the record for world’s tallest building (810+m) for the foreseeable future will contain about 3,595,100 sq ft (334,000 m²) when completed. So, the Crystal Island project will have 7.5 times the indoor space.

img The State Hermitage occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St Petersburg. The leading role in this unique architectural ensemble is played by the Winter Palace, the residence of the Russian tsars that was built to the design of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1754-62. The basic display areas of the State Hermitage occupy 365 rooms in the Main Museum Complex located in the historic centre of St Petersburg.

The amazing Moscow State Circus

The Great Moscow State Circus was opened on 30th of April 1971. It has been designed and built by a group of the architects and engineers under the leadership of Mr. I.Belopolsky and still today it strikes everyone with its technical possibilities. There wasn‘t and still there isn‘t a similar circus anywhere in the world. Its auditorium represents a 36 meters high amphitheatre consisting of 23 rows totaling to 3400 seats.
Traditional circuses are a rarity in many parts of the world these days, but the Moscow State Circus is one troupe keeping the art form vividly alive. Headquartered at its flagship arena near Red Square, it tours the world for much of the year bewitching audiences with the extraordinary talents of its array of artistes.

Surfing capital of the world
Any sunny day on the coast of Australia you can see hundreds of young people going to the beach. They all share Australia’s national passion-surfing. These soul surfers, as they are often called, practice the sport purely for personal enjoyment and many even find a deeper meaning through involving themselves directly with naturally occurring wave pattern. “My friends and I usually go down to the beach before breakfast in the summer”, says 18-years-old Jerry, “and come home again for dinner”. At weekends it is quite normal to drive hundreds of kilometres to find that “perfect wave”. But in Sidney, the biggest city in Australia, you don’t have that problem-there are thirty-four beaches close to the city centre!

The Hermitage Museum is Russia’s best gallery of world art, one of the most prominent art museums in the world and definitely the main tourist attraction of St. Petersburg. The museum was founded in 1764 when Catherine the Great purchased a collection of 255 paintings from the German city of Berlin. Today, the Hermitage boasts over 2.7 million exhibits and displays a diverse range of art and artifacts from all over the world and from throughout history (from Ancient Egypt to the early 20th century Europe).
