The archipelago of the British Virgin Islands includes some sixty volcanic isles surging out of the sea with a jagged, rough coastline dotted with pristine white-sand beaches. None is more idyllic than Biras Creek, a low-key hideaway on the northeastern tip of Virgin Gorda. The island, first named the ”Pregnant Virgin” by Christopher Columbus because of its round shape, was rechristened the ”Fat Virgin” when the technical impossibility of its original name dawned on him.

barbuda island

In the eastern Caribbean just north of Antigua, Barbuda is one of the Leeward Islands. On one side of the island the Atlantic Ocean ravages the wild beaches, strewing them with driftwood and shells, while on the other the calm Caribbean Sea creates endless stretches of perfect white and pink sandy beaches. The island is much less developed than many of the Caribbean neighbours. Popular activities include swimming and snorkelling, as the clear waters abound with turtles and tropical fish.
