The ancient city of Ephesus (Turkish: Efes), located near the Aegean Sea in modern day Turkey, was one of the great cities of the Greeks in Asia Minor. Ephesus, located 600km (373 miles) southwest of Istanbul, is one of the grandest and best-preserved ruins of the ancient world. According to evidence dating from around 1400 BC, the Hittites were the first to settle the site, which they named Apasas.
From the entrance at the Eastern gate of the city, there is the Eastern Agora, Odeon, the Temple of Domitianus, Polio Fountain, Trajan Fountain, Scolastica Bath, hillside houses, the Temple of Hadrianus, Celsus Library, Lower Agora, Marbled Street, Grand Theater, Arcadianus Avenue and the Church of the Virgin Mary. “Everything is dramatic about the EV hotel from its stark, white, minimalist lines to its location on a hilltop overlooking Bodrum’s Türkbükü bay and the turquoise sea beyond. The hotel, which has just opened, was conceived by architect and interior designer Eren Talu, who had a vision of ‘privacy within a community’, linking the idea of home and hotel and resulting in 48 apartment-style rooms. They are simply styled in sharp white, and each one has a balcony, towelling sofa, plasma TV, CD player and adjustable mood lighting. The fully equipped kitchens boast Smeg appliances and the bathrooms include Jacuzzis. This hotel was built for relaxation, and even those who tire of lazing in the sun on the towelling day beds need not get bored, as there are eight outdoor pools, a spa and fitness centre. Staff will create a tailored ‘personal wellness program of rejuvenation and replenishment’ for each guest.” - Guardian, Sunday June 12, 2005

Goreme which have the old names of Korama, Matiana and Maccan is 10 km far away from the center of Nevsehir province. The valley created from volcanic rocks is famous with the chimney rocks resulting from the erosion made by the natural factors to these rocks and with the historical richness. It has been an important religious place together with the intensive emigration of the first Christians escaping from the pressure of the Roman soldiers. The population escaped from the pressures has made many abbeys, churches and houses in the volcanic rocks from the valley where they were able to hidden easily. In our days in Goreme are found Elmali Church, Saint Barbara Church, Carikli Church, Tokali Church and Hidden Church and all of these are open air museums. According to the Suda, before being known as Aphrodisias, the city had three previous names: Lelegon Polis (city of the Leleges), Megale Polis, and Ninoe. The city was later renamed Stauropolis (city of the cross) in the Christian era. The similarities of the goddess Aphrodite to Artemis of Ephesus and other Anatolian mother goddesses are evident in cult statues found at the ruins. In Hellenistic times, she took the form of an ancient nature goddess who was sovereign on the earth, in heaven, and in the oceans and the underworld.
