Malawi is a landlocked country in southeast Africa, also emerged as Nyasaland. Behind the shores of lake Malawi known for boutique eco-resorts and rich international tourists is another Malawi with green hills, tea plantations, high mountains and game parks free of safari jeep traffic jams. The country covering about 400 miles in total and every traveler will find an extraordinary experience.

Despite of the fact the roads could sometimes be rough, in general the country provides an easy trip. The widly spoken language is English. The other language is Chichewa. The main point in Malawi is Blantyre. Blantyre is like Malawi’s New York. It’s a centre of finance and commerce and is the second largest city. During daytime in Blantyre you will bump into vendors hawk, avocados, bananas and cellphones card ending up to the window of your car; traffic police try to stop wild drivers.

As well as Blantyre boast several ”Out of Africa” restaurants, where you can sit on an open -air terrace and sip a late afternoon Malawi style gin and tonic.

Then from Blantyre, lies the Thyolo region about 25 miles southeast though winding road. Everywhere in Malawi is recommended to hire a car and driver (for about $30 a day). So Thyolo is a home to tea plantations, reminds very much of Sri Lanka. The roads there have winds and meanders up through rich green hills. Several of the plantations like Satemwa Tea Estate welcome overnight visitors offering them traditional planters’ bungalows.

But if you going north from Blantyre in a trip you will come across the biggest attraction of the country: the famous lake and Liwonde National Park. The park is very wild and animals have become almost conditioned to seeing tourists. If you are not on a paid safari tour, the best way to explore the park is to take a boat, provided by Mvuu Camp, the main lodge in the park, along the Shire River.

Just 80 miles north of Liwonde you will come to lake Malawi, which has the widest diversity of fish in the world and shore with its rocky outcroppings reminds of the Indian Ocean beach.

Singita Boulders is the part of the Singita Group of Lodges. It’s comprised of a number of smaller reserves that have set the bar for all of Africa, with their luxurious, intimate and classy lodges. A stay at Singita is about many things: remarkable design, innovative food and wine combined with exceptional hospitality.

Interiors are lavish in their simplicity and celebrate earthy colors in sandy browns, soft beige and caramel hues. Wood and stone are effectively used to create an effortless space that marries the modern world to the ancient one inspired by nature. Rough-hewn timber, leather and stone meet thatch and wild views. The decor is juxtaposed between the textures of Africa and carefree lines of an occasional retro classic. Quiet, simple and luxurious, guests love nothing better than to relax in the open-air lounge.

The Lodge has nine double suites each with en-suite bathroom, outside shower, fireplace, air-conditioning and game-viewing deck with private plunge pool. Boulders Lodge offers a relaxed opulence and one of the most beautiful locations in the Sabi Sand Reserve… it is pure African Zen. Guests at Singita will encounter something truly original: a cuisine inspired by African flavors yet guided by the Western culinary tradition. Complementing the menu is Singita’s hidden treasure: the best bush cellar in Africa. Buried deep in the cool rock below Boulders, the cellar boasts a truly unique and comprehensive cross section of over 12,000 bottles of South African and International wines.

The camp is one of the top luxury tented camps in East Africa, offering  unmatched views over the game filled Amboseli plain at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Early European explorers met derision and disbelief when they reported a snow-capped mountain close to the equator – Mount Kilimanjaro. Views from the camp seem endless across these plains of Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in Tanzania.

The camp won the British Airways Regional Award for ecotourism and has earned an international reputation for its commitment to the environment with its rustic simplicity, unobtrusive design and attention to comfort without compromising the ecosystem. The camp is a point of departure for safaris and explorations of the surrounding natural environment in Land Rovers or on foot and visits are also organized to the local Masai villages, where guests can discover the culture of the African population.

Composed of 17 tents and a family room, Tortilis Camp has its own swimming-pool and also a centrally-positioned, thatched building containing a bar and dining room produced entirely from natural materials. Erected on a wooden platform with wide verandas, the tents contain a luxuriously-decorated bedroom and a bathroom with shower.

This is a great place to start a safari, relax and acclimatise. Here clients enjoy varied game viewing and can also spend time following the matriarchal elephant herds from the luxury of open sided safari Land Rovers; or walk with a trained Masai guide, sip sundowners on top of Kitirua hill as the sun sets coloring the snows of Kilimanjaro pink, bush breakfasts out on the plains or a visit to one of the Masai “manyattas” (villages) to meet the Masai women, watch the “Morans” (young warriors) dance and experience their age-old existence.

From the rain forest covered rugged volcanic mountain peaks of the two main islands to the vast valleys leading down to a coastline ringed with a necklace of white sandy beaches. Experience a holiday destination like no other, full of adventure, natural beauty and pure relaxation.

Samoa offers a large variety of landscapes and attractions which are packed into a small area of islands. The islands, with their picturesque villages and landscapes are great for inland excursions and photo safaris. There is a good choice of resorts and hotels plus Samoa is still undiscovered by mass tourism. Explore the islands that are rich in traditional culture, unspoilt environment and home to the friendliest people in the South Pacific. The intact Polyneisan culture (90% of the inhabitants are pure Polynesian) and the unspoiled eco-system are the best reasons to visit Samoa.

Samoa does not have a highly developed infrastructure for water activities and you won’t find any commercial water sports like para-sailing, water skiing or jet boats here, which is great. Surfing is excellent in Independent Samoa and there are some great kayaking and fishing opportunities. There are some fantastic hiking trails in both Independent Samoa and American Samoa, including remote coastal trails, hikes to waterfalls and climbing the summits of the great mountain ranges.

So make the most of the winter and get-a-way to Samoa.
