The world’s most romantic canals

Published by in ACTIVITIES, Arts, CONTINENTS, Eating, Europe, Hotels, Italy, Monuments, Photos, Rafting, Restaurants, TOPICS, Travel gear, Travel Stories, Travel Tips, Urban Tourism, Videos

venice_gondolas_1.jpg

Everyone knows Canals of Venice. Gondolas bobbing on the Grand Canal, and a picturesquely decaying city sinking slowly into the waters of the Lagoon. And yet Venice is a city of many surprises and delights for the visitor. The first one is that you will spend most of your time walking – the pavements play as major a role in the city as do the canals. The one thing you won’t see is cars, drivers have to leave their vehicles at the city gate, and that makes exploring this romantic, art-filled and utterly unique city very enjoyable. And though tourists crowd the city, most of them head straight for the Basilica di San Marco and the Doge’s Palace; a little trip off the beaten track yields huge rewards, as you nip down narrow alleys and find beautiful little churches, street markets and yet another canal before you.

Depending on the season and water flows, Iguazu is made up of 150 to 270 subsidiary falls that stretch across a two mile area of Argentina and Brazil. The average drop from the top of the falls to the narrow canyon below is 240 feet (by contrast, Niagara Falls drops 170 feet on the Canadian side and only 110 feet on the American side).

What about Rafting the Zambezi River

Published by in ACTIVITIES, Africa, CONTINENTS, COUNTRIES, Rafting, TOPICS, Travel Stories, Zambia, Zimbabwe

What about Rafting the Zambezi River For all the fans of rafting the Zambezi River is probably a dreamed and must-do activity.

White Water Rafting on the Zambezi River below the Victoria Falls has been classified by the British Canoe Union as Grade 5 – extremely difficult, long and violent rapids, steep gradients, big drops and pressure areas. This is a high volume, pool-drop river – little exposed rock either in the rapids or in the pools below the rapids. The Zambezi White Water Rafting is internationally acclaimed as being the wildest in the world.

The enormous Zambezi River plunges 103 metres into a chasm almost 2km in length. In full flood the water makes a deafening roar throwing up towering clouds of spray which create multitudes of sparkling rainbows and constantly drenches the opposite cliff in rain.

Maybe the Most Amazing Waterfalls on the Planet – Iguazu Falls

Published by in ACTIVITIES, Argentina, Brazil, CONTINENTS, COUNTRIES, Photos, Rafting, Relaxing, Sightseeings, South America, TOPICS, Travel Stories, Videos

Maybe the Most Amazing Waterfalls on the Planet - Iguazu Falls Iguazu Falls are one of the most spectacular sights in the world. Taller than Niagara Falls, twice as wide with 275 cascades spread in a horsehoe shape over nearly two miles of the Iguazu River, Iguazú Falls are the result of a volcanic eruption which left yet another large crack in the earth. Iguazú Falls is undoubtedly the most visited place in Misiones and one of the most imposing natural attractions in Argentina, and why not in South America.

The waterfall system consists of about 270 falls along 2.7 kilometres (1.67 miles) of the Iguazu River. The average drop from the top of the falls to the narrow canyon below is 240 feet (by contrast, Niagara Falls drops 170 feet on the Canadian side and only 110 feet on the American side). Iguazú river is born in Paraná state in Brazil, and after crossing 1,200 km. on a plateau where it receives several affluents, it reaches a fault forming a crack in the interleaved layers of sandstone and basalt where the river runs.

If you love rocks, heights and whitewater Grand Canyon is the right place

Published by in ACTIVITIES, Climbing, CONTINENTS, COUNTRIES, Fishing, Hiking, Monuments, North America, Rafting, Sightseeings, TOPICS, United States of America, Videos

If you love rocks and heights Grand Canyon is the right place The Grand Canyon is a very colorful, steep-sided gorge, carved by the Colorado River, in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. The canyon, created by the Colorado River cutting a channel over millions of years, is about 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 0.25 to 15 miles (0.4 to 24 kilometers) and attains a depth of more than a mile (1,600 m). Nearly two billion years of the Earth’s history has been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut through layer after layer of sediment as the Colorado Plateaus have uplifted.

Grand Canyon National Park is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, a designated World Heritage Site, and one of the “Crown Jewels” of the National Park System.

tablecape_tourismtasmania.jpgSeparated from mainland Australia by the 240 km stretch of Bass Strait, Tasmania is a land apart – a place of wild and beautiful landscapes; friendly, welcoming people; a pleasant, temperate climate; wonderful wine and food; a rich history; and a relaxed island lifestyle.
Tasmania is a land of things to do and see.
On the island, you’ll contemplate days from a distant past – and let your senses savor the present. You can climb a remote peak, set foot on ancient shores, and meet amazing animals. Duck your head in a deep, dark cave. Climb up and down a family tree. Widen your horizons on a wilderness beach. Breathe the world’s freshest air in an ancient rainforest. Trek, taste, fish, fossick, shop, snap and stroll – and more, much more.
The mountain’s jagged, truncated contours evoke a primeval feel unlike anything on the Australian mainland. Landscapes include ancient rainforest and alpine heath lands, interspersed with button grass and stands of colorful, deciduous beech. Cradle Mountain itself is reflected in the still waters of the lakes that ring it.
