Rugen is the largest of Germany’s islands, nearly 1,000 sq km with 570 km long wiggling coastline of steep cliffs and broad, shallow inlets. It is a picture-book paradise of white cliffs, wide sandy beaches, wood and moorland with romantic castles, old churches and old-fashioned towns of fin de siecle villas. Photo by: mario_65

The main town is called Sassnitz, the ‘Gateway to Scandinavia‘. It is a colourful port with the longest seawall in Europe, a 1,450 m long mole where you can spend hours watching the boats come in – from passenger liners to fishing skiffs. Nearby is Jasmund National Park where the sheer chalk cliffs with their extraordinary charm, plunge dramatically into the sea. Behind the dense beech forest, there is unusually diverse woodland including wild apples and pears. There are several idyllic resorts dotted around the coast in the south east – old spa town with incredible clean beaches. Photo by: rhewson630@rogers.com

In contrast to the woods and hills of the eastern site, is a low-lying area of saltmarsh wetlands, tidal flats and peat bog with an incredible variety of flora and fauna. The lagoons there are heaven of thousands of migrating cranes. Photo by: nahaase

When to go: Rugen is beautiful at any time of year. The tourist season is April to October. Population: 73,000. Getting there: By boat – either across the Strelasund on the car ferry from Stahlbrode to Glewitz, or across the Baltic from Scandinavia. Photo by: eagle-ffm

Cocos Islands are discovered in 1609, they were settled and owned by a single family from 1872 until the Australian Government acquired them in 1978. A pristine white beach is so typical of the beautiful Cocos Islands. The 27 coral islands are formed into two large, heavily vegetated atolls. They are the only atolls that Darwin ever visited but the coral ecosystem remains intact – and you can still see in their pristine conditions, exactly why they played such an important part in his theory of evolution.

North Keeling, set apart from the other islands, isn’t even inhabited, but you can come across extreme rarities like the Cocos buff-banded rail, robber land crabs, and both green and hawksbill turtles among other wonders, under its protection as Pulu Keeling National Park.

The Cocos islanders live on Home and West Islands, both given over to copra and coconut plantations that only add to their tropical glamour. There is no tourist industry at all. Wild place populated with divers and kite-surfers. However there are facilities for visitors, sponsored by the islanders who take in personal interest everyone who come. If you happen to be there, you are welcome to participate in the school fete, sports day or concert night. The tradition of hospitality is both, Australian and Malay.

The islanders, as much as the islands themselves, have retained a form of unpolluted innocence, and share a mutual respect that visitors immediately respond to. These islands are a dreamscape worthy to travel for.
When to go: Year-round. The winds last from April to September. But between that period the islands is second home for professional kite maniacs. Rain is most intense between March and July and usually falls in the evening after long sunny day. Population: 446. Getting there: By air, from Perth, to West Island, Cocos Islands. Photos by: Christian Bartens

Cabo de la Vela is a headland in the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia with an adjacent small fishing village.
Cabo de la Vela is the most visited tourist destination of La Guajira. It has paradisaical beaches and an excellent landscape. This truely special region is well worth a visit. From Riohacha you have to go by car over to Cuarto Vias then up through Uribia to Cabo de la Vela probably another 70/80 km.

There’s over 60 guesthouses in Cabo de la Vela – all offer pretty basic accommodation in either cabanas with beds or in hammock. Seafood is the number one and only option and lots of beach restaurants have fresh langostas and fish on the menu.

Just as the Guajira is the ideal place for adventure tourism. Camping, bicycle tours, water sports, cultural exchanges, dances and festivals in the region.

It is a nice place and the sunset in Cabo de la Vela is amazing!

The spectacular journey along the Ligurian coast, near the border with France, goes through tunnel after tunnel, always bursting forth from darkness into warm sunlight, the aquamarine sea glimmering at your side. The region is used as the background area for movies about spies and sports car racing.

Liguria is home to seventeen protected areas. The most famous of them – Marine Reserve attracts 5000 scuba divers to its waters every year. The climate makes it possible to practice many sports almost all year long. Water sports reign along the coast: sailing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, kayaking, scuba diving and water skiing. The inland area offers excellent options for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. All of this makes Liguria a major tourist spot…

Demonstrations of paragliding, skydiving, base-jumping, hangliding, para-motor flights, remote control plane shows, microlights, hard core acrobatic competitions, accuracy landing competitions. Also summer sun, beach and unbelievably turquoise sea is just in front of you. After the sunset the action does not stop, chilling out by watching snap-shots from the day in Cloud 9 and parties. Music, drinks, dancers and entertainment are until the crack of dawn.

It is becoming increasingly popular for festival goers to arrive early and get in a bit of relaxation or some sky time prior to the opening ceremony. Accommodation in Oludeniz is limited and fills up FAST so get in early. The Festival starts in 14th and ends in 18th, 2009.

On Grend Roque, the sandy streets are lined with low-key posadas and little else. As well as there’re small motorboats on Grend Roque ready to take you to the many deserted islands and cays.

The right location of the island is approximately 250 km east of Puerto Rico and there’re 20 spectacular beaches all over it.
Kite Buggying or Parakarting is a fast growing sport that is great fun; it harnesses the power of the wind to propel a ‘pilot’ in a three-wheeled buggy using powerful ‘traction’ kites. The kite buggy is a light, purpose-built vehicle, it is single-seated and has one steerable front wheel and two fixed rear wheels. The driver sits in the seat located in the middle of the vehicle and accelerates and slows down by applying steering manoeuvres in coordination with flying manoeuvres of the kite.
Kite Buggying can be practiced in any open area of ground such as large fields and airfields, however the best place to go is the beaches where the surface is usually flatter, smoother and the wind is stronger and more consistent. Buggy speeds of double the speed of the wind are common.

It is an overseas department of France. Like the other islands, Martinique is also one of the 26 regions of France, and an integral part of the Republic. As part of France, Martinique is part of the European Union, the currency used is the euro. Its official language is French, although almost all of its inhabitants also speak Antillean Creole. Martinique is pictured on all euro banknotes. Fort de France is the capital of Martinique and the largest city in the French Antilles, and it has a population of 94,049 inhabitants. It is also one of the major cities in the Caribbean. The city centre is resplendent with architecture dating back to the start of the 19th Century and monuments that speak of the island’s history. The full range of shops, restaurants and services are available in a distinctly Caribbean style. Larger shopping and cinema complexes and meeting centers are located on the periphery of the city.
It is possible to reach Fort de France from any given point on the island within a few hours and is connected to Trois Ilets and Pointe du Bout by a convenient ferry service.
One of the most populary sightseeing in Martinique is the Saint Louis Cathedral which is in the capital Fort de France. Like the other atractions in the island, tourists don`t miss to take a look at the beautiful Cathedral.Built in 1671, the Saint-Louis Cathedral does not escape the destiny animated from the city. Set fire to by the soldiers of Ruyter, it is destroyed on several occasions (earthquake of 1839; set fire to of 1890; cyclone of 1891; earthquake of 1953). The current building was almost entirely rebuilt in 1978 in its version end XIX century due to Henri Picq, the architect of the Schoelcher Library. The interior will surprise you by his astonishing clearness. Do not fail to throw an eye with Large the Organ and the stained glasses which recall the history of the city.
The design of the cathedral was heavily influenced by the architects desire to make the structure resistant to fire and cyclones and as such the profile of the building was kept to a minimum. The interior is luminous and richly decorated.
