Sheltered by the Langeberg Mountains and bordered to the south by the Breede River, the Bontebok National Park in South Africa provides a refuge for not only bontebok, but also for other species such as the Cape mountain zebra, red hartebeest and grey rhebok. The park is situated within the Cape Floral Kingdom, the smallest, but richest of the world’s six floral kingdoms.

The Mentawai Islands, Indonesia are situated about 150km west of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean. They sit on the edge of a continental shelf where deep water surges up onto the coral reefs that surround and protect them. There are four main islands making up the chain including Siberut, Sipura and North & South Pagai. These four  islands are surrounded by many smaller islands. Their position makes them an excellent location for those seeking great surf and diving.

Chesler Park Loop, Utah, USA

Length: 11 miles round trip
Difficulty: Strenuous
Description: Chesler Park is a relatively flat grassy area surrounded by amazing rock formations, located in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. This trail provides excellent views of The Needles and it drops into a series of narrow fractures along what is know as the Joint Trail. There is a campground adjacent to the trailhead. Five designated backpacking campsites are located along the trail, for people who want to do more than a quick backpack. There is no water along this trail.

Approximately 120 kms to the east of Esperance by good road is the Cape Arid National Park featuring magnificent granite headlands, crystal clear waters and sparkling white sands. Two camping areas at Thomas River and Seal Creek. Limited facilities. Gravel roads, pit toilets, barbecues. No power or water. Camping fees will likely be applied during 2006/07.

Glenburn Tea Estate

Established in 1860 by Scottish tea planters, Glenburn is a working tea estate with 1,600 acres of private forest, tea picker villages and two river for you to explore. Wrap yourself up on the romantic colonial-style veranda, sipping a cup of the house tea, and enjoy the glorious view out to the Himalayas and across to Meera’s Buddha, an impressive bronze statue on the opposite hill to Glenburn.

Lycian Way

Lycia is the ancient name for Turkeys Tekke peninsula, which juts into the Mediterranean on the south coast. Mountains rise steeply from tiny bays along the coast, creating beautiful views for walkers on their wooded slopes. The Lycian Way was established ten years ago. It is a 316-mile marked path around the coast of Lycia, from Fethiye to Antalya. The route is easier at the start near Ferthiye and becomes more difficult as it progresses, with some hefty ascents and descents.
