The world is getting smaller as populations are booming and technology is improving. The answer may be found in whole cities being designed as this concept. 45 kilometres from Tianjin City and 150 kilometres from the Chinese capital of Beijing, the site of the Tianjin Eco-City is a fascinating, 30 sq km development designed to showcase the hottest new green technologies and to serve as a model for future developing Chinese cities. The Tianjin Eco-city is the result of a collaborative agreement between the governments of China and Singapore to jointly develop a socially harmonious, environmentally friendly and resource-conserving city in China.

In the forest in the tiny village of Harads, in municipality of Boden, far north of Sweden, one stunning tree hotel is located. Designed by Inredningsgruppen it resembles - what else - a bird’s nest. The hotel combine innovative modern design with ecological thinking in order to find new ways of valuing the vast Swedish forest. Opened in July, 2010, the Bird’s Nest consists of only six “rooms” each designed by a different architect to be completely unique. Each independent of the others, six different nests, each with its distinctive feature and its architecture.

The Hull History Centre is an archive and local studies library that houses the combined collections of both the Hull City Council and Hull University archives and local studies resources. The materials have been acquired by donation, deposit and purchase, since the first days of the University and its initial establishment as Hull University College in 1928.

At the time of its completion, the 88-story, 420.5 meters -high Jin Mao Tower was China’s tallest building and the fifth tallest in the world. Until 2007 when its height was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center, situated next to the building. Literally “Golden Prosperity Building”, this landmark skyscraper is located in mainland China, in Pudong district of Shanghai.

At 480 meters, Shanghai World Financial Center is the China’s tallest and the third-tallest in the world. It is a mixed use skyscraper which consists of offices, hotels, conference rooms, observation decks, and shopping malls on the ground floors. Located in Pudong, Shanghai, China, the skyscraper was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox.

A new 75-story tower designed by the architect Jean Nouvel for a site next to the Museum of Modern Art in Midtown New York, promises to be the most exhilarating addition to the skyline in a generation. The skyscraper initially was proposed to stand at the same height as the Empire State Building below its mast (381 m) and contain 73 floors. Each floor has 1,600 m2 starting with 3,700 m2 of space at the base.

The Shard, is a mixed-use skyscraper current under construction in Southwark, London. When it is completed, the Shard will become the tallest in the EU at 310m. Created by renowned architect Renzo Piano, the Shard is one of the most enigmatic buildings to adorn the London skyline in recent years. It will be complete in less than a year. The beautiful triangular shaped will stand 310 m tall and have 72 floors, plus 15 further radiator floors in the roof, making it the 45th tallest building in the world. Replacing Southwark Towers, a 24-storey office building constructed in 1976, the Shard London Bridge Quarter is set to be the new symbol for the world financial capital.

Founded in the 11th century by the Almoravids as a military settlement, Meknes became a capital of Morocco under Sultan Moulay Ismail (1672–1727. Located 130 km from the capital Rabat and 60 km from Fes, Meknes has been called the Versailles of Morocco, but the grand scheme for a royal palace was never completed. Today the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
