The Hotel de la Cite is located in the heart of the medieval city of Carcassonne, France, overlooking the valley of Laurageais and the lush Minervois vineyards. It is Europe’s largest fortified citadel, each stone a mute witness to its romantic past. Set in its own glorious gardens, the Hôtel De La Cité dates back to 1909 and stands on the site of the former Episcopal palace. Standing between two historic landmarks, the Roman Chateau Comtal and the Gothic Basilica of Saint-Nazaire, the Hotel de la Cite is a charming little place proudly bear witness to its history.

Acquired in May 1997 by Orient-Express Hotels, the Hotel de la Cite now features 61 deluxe guestrooms and suites. They have all been redecorated in a classic, contemporary, provincial or medieval style. Individually furnished suites have a balcony with spectacular views of the city and feature the most up to date facilities including air conditioning, sound-proofing, direct dial telephone and television.Hotel de la Cite is a Medieval-style chateau offering an outdoor swimming pool with views of Saint Nazaire Basilica. The hotel has a total of 3 restaurants including an award-winning gastronomic restaurant “La Barbacane” with one star in the Michelin guide, Chez Saskia and its outdoor summer restaurant Le Jardin de l’Evêque” allowing guests to sample outstanding French cuisine.
