New York is definitely the place to be for a hungry art lover and there are places that should not be missed out. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (colloquially The Met) is one of the largest and finest museums in the world. Its collections now contain more than three million works of art from all points of the compass, ancient through modern times. Located in New York City’s Central Park along Fifth Avenue it was founded in 1870. Every year nearly five million people visit the museum make it one of the most popular tourist attractions in NYC.
Even if you’re not much of a museum person, it is worth going to at least one during your visit if time permits. The objects in Met are divided into nineteen curatorial departments. The Met is gigantic and has an outstanding variety of things to see – over 2 million works of art from all over the world spanning 5,000 years of culture. Ranks as one of the world’s greatest museums, the museum will give you an awesome display of some excellent Impressionists masterpieces of Cezanne and Monet.
The Metropolitan Museum is extraordinary in scope and size, and a visitor to this world-famous museum should plan on staying the entire day. The Met is enormous. Even in a full day, you can only see a small part of the museum. Tuesday–Thursday: 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 9:30 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
Sunday: 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
