L’antic Theatre, Barcelona

This ancient multipurpose building was renoveted and function as a space for creation and a magnificent terrace bar. Located in one of the streets surrounding the illustrious Palau de la Musica, Barcelona, it hosts an interesting program of independent theatre plays and music shows. There are also a number of temporary exhibitions often adorn its walls. One that caught my eye was a great photography exhibit capturing the wheelers and dealers of New York’s punk scene during the 1970s.

Cargados Carajos

Cargados Carajos Shoals (sometimes refferd to as the Saint Brandon Rocks) are a group of about 22 small islands and islets on an extended reef in the Indian Ocean northeast of Mauritius. The emergent parts of the formation comprise a great, 100 km long, crescent-shaped expanse of reef and algal ridge covering around 190 square km. The west side of the reef ridge protects a large area of shallow water that averages less than 20 m in depth. Within this semi-lagoon are numerous sandbanks and small sand cays. The island atoll is like the Maldives, a real diving paradise. The curious thing about it, is that is not open to tourists.

Duda, Dada Heritage

Many people have heard about Dada art movement but few realise that it originated in the Niederdorf in Zurich in 1916, in partnership with Cabaret Voltaire. The house was preserved and reopened in 2002 to the public as a musem. However last summer its cafe was turned into a bar and Duda was born. The name of the cafe is a play on words coming from Dada and the German for ‘you there’. It’s a pity because few people know about the bar, as you have to walk through the museum shop – great for unusual gifts – to get to it, and because Duda is not allowed to advertise itself on the historical facade.

Porto Vecchio, Corsica

The vibrant town Porto Vecchio on Corsica‘s south-eastern corner is a mecca for French film and TV stars and a swish yachting community to boot. The main reason why Porto Vecchio attracts so many tourists is because of its old town enclosed by medieval walls, it’s got it all – shop-filled cobbled streets, a lovely main square, elegant open-air cafes and restaurants, a harbourside packed with opulent boats and lively, but not frenetic, nightlife.
