Middleton House Gardens

Tucked away near Enfield, UK these wonderful gardens have been undergoing a restoration since 1984 in the “style” of E.A. Bowles, the renowned plantsman who created them originally. A grant from the Heritage Lottery fund was awarded in 2009 to help a two year project to restore several areas of the gardens to their former glory. This includes restoration works, renovations to the Kitchen garden and the creation of a visitors center and café, opening in April 2011.

An impressive range of flora and fauna can be discovered within the gardens. Formerly the ancestral home of the Parker Bowles family, these unique gardens are an enchanting place to visit at any time of year. Throughout the changing seasons there’s always something new and wondrous to catch your eye. Highlights include:
Spring – daffodils, tulips and a national collection of award-winning Bearded Irises
Summer – 107 year old Wisteria, 100 year old Pepper Tree and terraces exploding with tender exotics such as Agaves and Aloes
Fall – Cyclamen, autumn Crocus and Colchiums
Winter – snowdrops adorn the grounds especially the Alpine Meadow and Rock Garden area.
