The Household Cavalry Museum

 

Situated at horse Guards, one of central London’s most historic buildings and the home of the Household Cavalry for 350 years, The Household Cavalry Museum offers a rare opportunity to gain an intriguing insight into the ceremonial and operational role of the British Army’s two senior regiments The Life Guards and the Blues and Royals.

Through a large glass screen visitors can view troopers attending to their horses in the working stables of the Queen’s Life Guard. The fascinating history of the Household Cavalry dating back to the restoration of Charles II in manifested by a dazzling display of uniforms, weapons, pictures and rare highly prized artefacts. There are elegantly showcased, with personal stories of some the regiments’ heroes brought vividly to life, in the magnificent mid 18th century vaulted stables. There are also fine displays of state ceremonial uniforms and horse furniture.

Explanatory audio visual presentations give first hand accounts of preparations for the great ceremonial occasions, the day to day training of recruits and the current combat reconnaissance role in armored cars and light tanks, undertaken by the Household cavalry regiment in trouble spots and conflict zones worldwide. Touch screen presentation about the troopers and their horses provide extra information in an entertaining and interactive way. In addition there are several fascinating audiovisual displays.
