Rooftop Sculpture Garden

The SFMOMA Rooftop Garden is an open-air gallery created by the inspiration of sculpture, space and light. The entire back wall of the museum top floor is removed, allowing a seamless connection from gallery to garden. The garden has a large panoramic windows offering an elevated view to the garden, presenting it like a landscape painting inside the gallery.

A glazed long-span bridge links the museum to a garden pavilion that in turn opens out to the garden through large sliding glass panels. Surrounding the garden, lichen-covered lava-stone walls hide the city and frame the sky, providing an oasis for art in the midst of downtown San Francisco.

There is also a Cafe Museo, which serves an inventive menu of Italian-inspired dishes made from fresh, local ingredients and organic produce. Located in a light-filled space adjacent to the museum’s entrance on Third Street, the cafe also has an espresso bar, indoor and outdoor seating, and a selection of wines by the glass. On the other hand the Rooftop Coffee Bar menu features a tasty variety of coffees, teas, refreshing drinks, and sweets. Cookies and cakes inspired by artworks on view in the museum’s galleries are baked on the premises daily. Set amid modern and contemporary sculptures in SFMOMA’s Rooftop Garden, the Coffee Bar is the perfect place to enjoy art while sipping on the city’s finest brew.

There are a wide selection of tours to meet the needs of the diverse audiences, and all of them provide engaging and enjoyable opportunities to learn more about modern and contemporary art. SFMOMA have a dynamic schedule of thought-provoking exhibitions on view, including special exhibitions and changing presentations from our collection of more than 26,000 artworks, photographs, and design objects.
