Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain

You’ll find the unique memorial fountain to Diana, Princess of Wales in the southwest corner of Hyde Park in London, between The Serpentine and Rotten Row. It has the form of a large, oval stream bed about 50 by 80 m that surrounds, and is surrounded by, a lush grassy field. It was opened by Her Majesty – Queen Elizabeth II on 6th July 2004. From a distance, the design, by Kathryn Gustafson and Ned Porter, looks like a necklace of moving water.

The 545 individual pieces of Cornish granite used in the construction of the fountain – each shaped by the latest computer-controlled machines by S. McConnell & Sons in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland. The fountain cost £3.6 million. The Memorial has become one of London’s most popular attractions with about a million people visiting it each year.
