Buckingham Palace
This has been the monarch’s official London home since 1837. It was first built as a town house for the Duke of Buckingham in 1705 and enlarged into a palace by John Nash 120 years later. The State Rooms and Royal Mews are open to the public part of the year.
Changing the Guard
This popular ceremony by soldiers from the Foot Regiments is traditionally known as Guard Mounting and takes place in front of Buckingham Palace at 11.30am. It happens daily from May-July and on alternate days for the rest of the year. The new guard takes over the formal duty of protecting the Queen from the old guard. The soldiers are from the Goldsrtream, Grenadier, Irish, Scots or Welsh Guards. For more info please click here.
