The Tote, Mumbai
This is an urban complex situated in the middle of one of the most beautiful open spaces in Mumbai, India. Designed by UK architects Chris Lee and Kapil Gupta of Serie Architects, The Tote consists of a banquet hall, restaurant and bar.
The bar design and construction of the Tote was a complex combination of restoration works. Actually the architects transformed disused colonial buildings on a racecourse. The design is inspired from the surrounding rain trees and a colonial facade of the building seems like an enchanted forest.
In the banquet hall and restaurant areas, white metal pillars branch out like trees creating the effect of walking down a forest path. By contrast, the 40ft long bar upstairs is all dark chocolate wood. The Tote Mumbai won The 2010 Restaurant Bar Design Awards in category International Bar and Best Bar design award.
