Yuma Main Library
The Yuma Main Library is 80,000 square feet of a brand-new, state-of-the-art library to explore. The library, which cost about $28 million, was paid for with a $53.7 million bond approved by voters in 2005. And with the capacity to hold 600,000 volumes, there’s room to grow. In the library, visitors will find expansive views and lots of natural light through one of the many windows in the building.

Downstairs, the guests of the Library will now have a store, where they’ll sell books and other items. There’s a cafe, four multipurpose rooms and the fiction collection. One of the main attractions is “bound” to be the children’s area. The children’s area is an oasis for Yuma’s littlest readers with a giant tree growing from the floor to the ceiling, a nature theme that is carried throughout. There’s even a separate children’s craft area.

The whole library is designed this in mind for whole families. And there are plenty of places to curl up with a book, including a new home for Booker the Bear. He has his own cave in the new library. Throughout the library are 52-inch, LCD flat-screen TVs, which Wisdom said will show announcements and news. Over each row of books is additional lighting, which makes searching through the call numbers a little easier. DVDs, books on tape and CDs are also located upstairs in the audiovisual department. The nonfiction section is also upstairs. It’s great to see people that excited about the libraries. Location: Yuma, Arizona, United States.
