The landscaping was the early influence of Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994) and consists of five lakes and preserved forest reserve. The whole museum is completely different from other museums for offering the artist able to perform work only in their park could be built.

In an area of 97 hectares, the Botanical Garden has several botanical collections among which stand out from aroids, a collection Vanda orchid species, 350 individuals of different species and also one of the largest collections of palms in the world with over 1,400 species. Research and botanical and landscape designs are developed in partnership with governmental and private.

If you are visitor, you will faced many possibilities of paths and trails, which are arranged with works of art, sometimes with rare species of plant. There is no way suggest a single path. There is no predefined scripts: it is better to surrender to the experience. Today, the introduction of little-known species in gardens is also a priority in order to submit a species that, despite their unusual beauty, are hardly used in landscaping projects. Thus, even if the landscaping meets the aesthetic standards clearly, the variety of species can be used for environmental education.

The museum has about 70 works on display, which are divided between four galleries, which house temporary exhibitions of long duration: Source, Lake, and Forest Plaza. There are also different exhibition spaces. Many works are displayed outdoors, amid the garden, immersed in the woods, atop a mountain, or on a lake. Other works are in enclosed spaces, shown individually in specially built pavilions to shelter them, or composing group exhibitions in major galleries. The coexistence of open and closed spaces promotes a unique experience of enjoying the artwork.
