Karlskrona

Karlskrona is a Sweden town close to the Baltic Sea giving great opportunities to sail or swim. During the summer the climate is warm, mild and sunny. The city is often called a “city of archipelago”. Tourists are welcome to explore the islands and their lovely nature by bike or by walking, giving you the possibilities to visit historical buildings like forts and ancient walls. The Naval Port of Karlskrona is now on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in the streets in centre of Karlskrona are filled with stores if you like shopping, and there are museums if you’re interested in art or history.

Karlskrona is a city, where shopping is a priority. While walking on the streets you will stumble upon all kinds of shops. There are well-known Swedish stores but also unique boutiques. The streets Borgmastaregatan and Ronnebygatan are recommended if you want a lot of stores to choose from. Wachtmeisters Kopcentrum is a shopping centre on Borgmastaregatan that has almost 30 different stores.

Restaurants in Karlskrona are excellent and while visiting archipelago islands, you can have a chance to taste typical Swedish food in many cosy restaurants and cafes and at the same time enjoy the beautiful views. Cafes are very common in Karlskrona and they became a sort of specialty of the town – from modern and elegant ones, through those of cosy, countryside style, but still serving many sorts of excellent coffee and to surprisingly cheap ones – like Militarhemmet at Stortorget.

Karskrona is a wonderful place for culture orientated people as well. During summertime music dominates in the city. Two festivals are held yearly: Lycka Chamber Music Festival and Carlscrona Chamber Music Festival. At seven places in Blekinge you can find rock-carvings from Bronze Age (1800-500 BC), and none of them are very far from Karlskrona. If you’re interested in historical culture and on a visit in Karlskrona, don’t miss these masterpieces that are about 3000 years old.
