Frederiksborg Castle
Frederiksborg is a royal renaissance castle, built in the 17th century by Christian IV. The castle houses an impressive chapel with the coats of arms of Knights of the Elephant and Knights of the Grand Cross, Riddersal (Great Hall) and Audienssal (Audience Chamber). The museum is Denmark‘s national portrait gallery with paintings of Danish kings and queens and distinguished Danish men and women dating back to 1500. The museum is also a journey through the history of Denmark with historical paintings, furniture and art and design.

Frederiksborg Caste is situated in Hillerod, north of Copenhagen. The castle is the largest in Scandinavia, best of Renaissance architecture and craftsmanship. The enchanting location in the middle of the Castle lake, surrounded by the Baroque Garden and romantic landscaped gardens, makes Frederiksborg Castle a unique place for superb cultural experiences, scenic walks and boat tours.

Lunch and refreshment can be enjoyed Spisestedet Leonora. The restaurant is beautifully situated on the Castle Lake and outdoor serving in summer. The museum also offers School Service which is a series of written educational facilities. These are based on items from the permanent exhibition. The materials for students is mainly based on the museum’s paintings, and aims to give students some tools for reading and interpretation of images and their historical framework. Each set of materials consists of a teacher orientation, and a worksheet for students respectively.

The National History Museum also offers guided tours of the museum, based on the presented learning material. There is an ongoing guided tours of museum exhibitions. The tours typically take one hour and be conducted by the museum savvy students.
