Museum of Tervueren

The Museum of Tervuren is one of the world’s most fascinating and visually striking institutions devoted to Central Africa. The museum is housed in a beautiful structure, dotted by a vast park with ponds and formal gardens. As a research institute, the RMCA (Royal Museum Central Africa) leads several scientific projects. Some 85 scientists and 150 students and trainees conduct research on an ever-changing continent of countless communities, lush forests, stark deserts, and unrivalled wildlife.

The museum has temporary exhibitions which correspond to the general of the Museum. The aim of the exhibitions is connected with understanding of past and present Africa and to reinforce cultural dialogue. Temporary exhibitions emphasise collections not presented in the permanent exhibition and incorporate scientific research. By organizing temporary exhibitions, the RMCA aims to develop networks and partnerships, and also to diversify and increase its visiting audience.

The RMCA also plays a crucial role in numerous international projects and networks to which it contributes expertise and specialized knowledge. RMCA scientists write over 300 scientific publications a year. The museum building dates from 1910. It still exudes a unique charm, but the infrastructure is not adapted to the needs of a modern museum.

The Royal Museum for Central Africa is situated in the green oasis far away from Brussels: the ideal place for your reception, seminar, meeting or business dinner. If you decide to organize a reception or theme dinner, then contact the museum information desk for your specific wishes. There are approximately 200 free parking spaces around the Museum. Getting there: Direct trains link Brussels Central with virtually every large station in the country. The most convenient railway station is Brussels Central. From there, take the subway line 1B in (direction Stockel); get out at Montgomery station. Then take tram 44 until you reach the final destination (terminus). The tram links Montgomery with Tervuren in 22 minutes with four trams per hour during the week and three trams per hour at the weekend.  The Museum is 300m from the tram 44 terminal.
