Statens Museum For Kunst

Denmark‘s National Gallery has a unique collection of Danish and international art from the past 700 years. Paintings, sculptures, graphics and installation art. From Mantegna, Rubens and Rembrandt to Kobke, Hammershoi, Matisse and Kirkeby. New meets old, in the museum’s architecture too. The extension added in 1998 is connected to the original museum building dating from 1986 by a glass covered  Sculpture Street – an oasis of sculptures and resting areas.

The Gallery stages a wide range of exhibitions, all taking the museum collections as their point of departure. The Children’s Museum of Art offers exhibitions aimed at children and young adults. Twice a year an artist from Denmark or abroad is invited to create an exhibition specifically for x-rummet. The space is the Gallery’s venue for experimental contemporary art.

The Gallery offers ample scope for a wide range of entertainment and activities. For example, you may find concerts and artist talks taking place on the Stage in the Sculpture Street. In addition to this, the Gallery offers guided tours for children as well as adults, and workshops where children can try their hand at creating art themselves.

In between enjoying the Gallery’s collections, exhibitions, concerts, guided tours, and workshops, you can contemplate the arts in the Gallery cafe or browse the well-stocked bookshop. The Cafe: While you take in the spectacular view of the Ostre Anlæg park outside you can enjoy brunch, a hot meal, a sandwich, or cake, washing it all down with a choice of hot and cold beverages. The Bookshop: The Gallery Bookshop stocks Danish and international books about art, artists, and art history.
