SONS – Shoes Or No Shoes, Belgium
SONS – Shoes Or No Shoes in Kruishoutem?, Belgium is a symbolic representation of people’s passion for shoes. It is a real shoe experience with its three collections: the etnographic collection, which includes 2,700 pairs from 135 countries and is acknowledged by the Guinness World Records as the largest collection of tribal and ethnological shoes;the Modern collection, consisting of 1,200 pairs, which formally belonged to artists. Here comes up the question whether they are art or shoes. The designer collection represents a showcase of unique footwear from 20th-century and contemporary designers, some of whom are Manolo Blahnik and Christian
Louboutin.
SONS is spotted in a building, which is designed by gallery owner Emile Veranneman and architect Christiaan Vander Plaetse in 1973.The interior design of SONS resembles warehouse with its industrial shelving systems and almost no colour.
