Keukenhof spring garden

Each year over 7,000,000 bulbs are hand-planted to create the world’s largest flower garden in Lisse, about 15 miles of Amsterdam. Literally means “kitchen garden”, Keukenhof Gardens was listed in World’s Top 25 Attractions in 2010 as one of the most popular destinations in the Netherlands.

These flower gardens were an idea of mayor of Lisse and a dozen prominent Dutch bulb growers. Their purpose was to have a place where growers could showcase their latest hybrids. The first open-air flower exhibition was held in 1949.

Over 50 years later, Keukenhof spring garden is the largest bulb park in the world and here you’ll see displays created by more than seven million tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, spring bulbs and beautiful trees. It is only open for 8 weeks in the spring of each year. In 2011, it will be open from March 24th – May 20th.

There are several restaurants within the park or you can bring along a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the many benches and picnic spots. For additional information please visit official website here.
