The grand symbol of Sofia

The recently erected (2001), larger than life statue of Sofia overlooks the main intersection across from TZUM retail center and the Hotel Sheraton. This statue towers over a busy crossroads in the centre of Sofia represents the goddess protector of the city. The spectacular statue of Saint Sofia, symbol and patron of the city,  has eight metres height and it stands on a sixteen meters pedestal.

The 24-metre high bronze and copper sculpture weughing four tonsis creation of Bulgarian artist Georgi Chepkanov and architect Stanislav Konstantinov. As you can see, Sofia holds the symbols of fame and wisdom in her hands and wears the crown of Tjuhe – the goddess of fate.
