Financial Center of the World – Wall Street

Wall Street is a street in Lower Manhattan, New York City. When the Dutch owned Manhattan, savage competition for trade led to war against the British. Governor Peter Stuyvesant ordered that a fortified wall be built, stretching 2,340 feet from the East River to the Hudson River. The Wall Street area is alive by day with the hum of commerce. It is the first permanent home of the New York Stock Exchange.

Today the wall may be gone, but a war continues to rage during the week in the financial banks, brokerage houses and insurance companies lining the street. This is home to the world’s largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies. If you’re here during business hours, be sure to take the tour of the New York Stock Exchange, and walk around the narrow streets to rub shoulders with high-powered financial leaders.
