The Teatro alla Scala was founded, under the auspices of the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, to replace the Royal Ducal Theatre, which was destroyed by fire on 26 February 1776 and had until then been the home of opera in Milan.
The cost of building the new theatre was borne by the owners of the boxes at the Ducal, in exchange for possession of the land on which stood the church of Santa Maria alla Scala (hence the name) and for renewed ownership of their boxes.

Embryo Nightclub, Bucharest, Romania

The four-part logo of this night club in Bucharest refers to the organic theme that inspired its design: the various stages of development of an embryo. The entrance area leading into the windowless ground and basement floors is like a vagina; in the underbelly of the club a three-dimentional wall made of Comadur panels in the form of an oversized cell structure encloses the space. Complementing this variably colored, womb-like space, the rest of the interior fittings and the light membrane also imitate organic forms. The procreative process is also represented in the indirect lighting slots in the bar area, which are in the form of sperm cells.
