IM VIADUKT

Designed by EM2N, IM Viaduct is located just a short walk from the latest of Zurich‘s shopping districts. EM2N is a Swiss architecture studio founded in 1997 by its partners Mathias Müller and Daniel Niggli. The project began in 2004 as an architectural design competition and is completed in 2010. A shopping paradise has been created under 36 viaduct arches. This long urban arcade invites you to shop, enjoy, eat and drink. The colorful mix of studio galleries, sport and fashion boutiques, is open to the public.

The viaduct was originally built to support the city’s early rail lines from the 19th century. Now the structure separates the urban part of Zurich and the city centre. The infrastructure element is to form a linear park that will be part of a culture, work and leisure mile. This 550-yd-long urban meeting place features the finest in designer clothing and furniture, as well as high-end electronics and funky accessories. At the heart of it all is Zurich’s first covered market hall where vendors offer fresh vegetables, meats and fish along.
